Speaking of long lines

“What’s shakin’ D.C.?! Shake Shack® is thrilled to announce it will open on Thursday, October 12th at 11 A.M. at The Wharf, the mixed-use housing, dining, shopping and entertainment developement along the District’s Southwest Waterfront. The Wharf Shack will be located at 975 Wharf St. SW, Washington, D.C.

In addition to the Shack classics, The Wharf Shack will be spinning up a selection of local frozen custard concretes: Chocolate & Chip (chocolate custard, peanut butter sauce, chocolate toffee and Route 11 potato chips), Strawberry Banana Crunchcake (vanilla custard, strawberry puree, Pollystyle shortbread and banana) and Pie Oh My (vanilla custard and slice of Livin’ The Pie Life featured pie).

What’s sweeter? The Wharf Shack will open with a one-day only burger collaboration with local favorite Gordy’s Pickle Jar. The Super Fry Frickle Burger will feature a cheeseburger topped with crispy marinated shallots, Gordy’s Thai basil pickled jalapeños, and ShackSauce – complimentary for the first 100 guests in line on opening day when doors open at 11 A.M. Well this is bonkers. The Washington Post reports:

“Red Apron Burger Bar, the fast-casual spot that introduced local sourcing to the traditionally opaque world of hamburger patties, will shut down its storefront off Dupont Circle on Sunday, less than nine months after it debuted to much fanfare. Neighborhood Restaurant Group and Red Apron Butcher, partners in the venture, will relaunch the concept Tuesday at EatBar on Barracks Row for both delivery and dine-in.”

“Dear PoPville,

Thrillist has a food critic that traveled across the country for the past year in search of the best burger in America.

It turns out, despite his initial pessimism about the DC burger scene, DC has some damn good burger joints! He ranked his top 8 of the city, calling it one of the most underrated cities of his trip. And then at the release of his top 100, 4 of those 8 were selected, with Duke’s Grocery’s Proper Burger coming in at #5 overall! Pretty cool if you ask me.
