From @DCStreetcar:

“To make your opinions on @DDOTDC’s proposed regulations official, use http://t.co/1T7KJOimUs or [email protected] before 9/27.”

From DDOT’s Facebook page:

“In response to the “proposed” regulations for bicycling on H Street. [52268]

DDOT’s number one priority is the safety of all modes of transportation, including bicycles, who share H Street. To that end, G and I Streets now have contraflow bicycle lanes, a safer alternative to H Street and designed to keep cyclists away from streetcar tracks.

We have concerns about all kinds of vehicles impeding the travel of the streetcar, and taken as a whole, the regulations address that. We are looking for constructive ways to address this concern while minimizing the impact to all users of the street. What were shared are (proposed) regulations for which we are seeking public comment.

Constituents have until Sept. 27 to weigh in.”

and:

“In response to the suggestion that prohibition on riding bicycles on the H st. Streetcar guideway *and* the prohibition on bringing bicycles on-board a streetcar during rush hour periods:

“Additionally, DDOT proposed these regulations specifically for the opening of the H Street/Benning Rd streetcar line. Before the opening of any new lines or extensions, DDOT intends to evaluate how the system is performing under the existing regulations and make changes as appropriate.”

Help! My Bike Was Stolen! + A Love Letter:

“…I know this might be a futile effort, but just hoping that the good of the internet can help keep their eyes peeled.

I left my bike locked in front of my office (M st Between 16 & 17) last night because I left my bike lights at home and I didn’t want to ride home in the dark. This AM my good ol’ faithful was missing — the Ulock had been cut by a person with superpowers or some nefarious device. Perhaps it was poofed like the 3% of the earth’s population on HBO’s The Leftovers. But I’m just not willing to accept that.

This. The bike that got me through years of art school, the bike that got me from downtown to my home in midtown one-hundred-million times, the bike that took me from Georgia to North Carolina on the dirty, shittily paved roads of the southern stretches of 95. The brakes are loose and the gears are a little weird by now, but hell, I’m so pathetically in love with the thing I’d even buy it back. “Just shut up and take my money,” I’ll say.

I’m sorry I always talked about how I didn’t like your sporty appearance because I do. I’m sorry for that one time that I rode you around the coastal highways too much and you got rust from the salty air. I’m sorry I left you behind that weekend and cheated on you with another bike, but mostly I’m just sorry that your gone. Please come back.

PS. I love you.

The bike is a Specialized green and white “Vita” 21-spd hybrid, 27″ spoke wheels, thumb shift, quick release, gel seat for anyone who cares to help! I would GREATLY appreciate it.”

To the good samaritan on 6th & M NE – I have your beach towel!

“I’m hoping you can help me reunite this beach towel with its owner. On Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:10 PM, while traveling northbound in the bike lane on 6th St NE, I was hit by a large van turning left from 6th St onto M St NE.

Many people responded (and thank you to all of you), but one was nice enough to wedge her towel under me as protection from the hot asphalt. I was loaded into the ambulance and didn’t realize until going through my belongings after being discharged from the hospital that the towel ended up coming with me.

It’s blue and green and I’d love to return it to you – thank you so much for responding. Though I’d never wish the circumstances on anyone, it was heartening to see the response that the 6th & M corner provided. Thanks again.”

Where’s the canary melon?

“I once had a canary melon. It was delicious. I’d like to find one again. Anyone know where I can find a canary melon in the DC area? Thank you”

Front Bike Wheel Stolen off Locked up Bike:

“I had my bike locked to a bike rack with a U-lock near 17th and I St NW yesterday afternoon for about 3 hours. When I returned to my bike around 4 PM, the front wheel had been stolen. Major Bummer. Given the busy location, I’m surprised at the audacity of the thief to do this in the middle of the afternoon. Just a service announcement to make you secure your wheels in addition to your frame when locking up your bike.”

Historic Apts in DC:

“I’m considering moving to a different apt. this summer and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions for neat loft/historic apartments in the city. I’ve spent some time browsing blog sites that showcase great apartments in old factories, warehouses, schools, etc. in cities like Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Chicago. These cities being former industrial centers have more of these types of buildings, but I’d like to find something similar in DC if possible. Anyone have any suggestions of an older building with character? Thanks for your help!”
