“Dear PoPville,

Shot in the dark —

About 25 years ago I was living in NW DC (16th & U), working as a bartender at Julio’s. In my travels, I came upon an older Russian (or Eastern European) homeless man; very disheveled and with a big scraggly beard. I may have run into him in the Adams Morgan area. Thanks to Adam for sending from 16th Street Heights: “Check out this neighborhood barn find I stumbled upon this afternoon on Allison Street! It’s a decomposing mid-1960’s Mustang 289! I must have walked by this ancient alley garage a zillion times over the years and somehow never noticed it before. Wow, and oy.”

Thanks to Dan for sharing this awesome find:

“Found this in my garden while preparing my plots for the planting season near U Street. It was very green and rusted at first, but after cleaning it up it appears to be a brass button of some sort.

So, I did some online digging (pun intended) and it turns out that this is a US Naval Officers formal attire button from before 1939. Read More
