“Dear PoPville,

Looking to improve the wifi connection in my house and feel like there’s got be a pool of DC residents who live in old rowhomes with thick walls and have found a good solution. Looking for recommendations for extenders. Thanks in advance!”

Side note: On twitter this morning we were asked: “Have others been experiencing especially inconsistent Xfinity service in DC over the last couple weeks? Seems to be dropping out once every couple hours on some days.”

Last night we received a number of reports about Comcast/Xfinity outages (service appears to be restored for many though some are still experiencing slowness as of this morning.) Doesn’t seem related bu thanks to Nat for sending this interesting tidbit: “I got an email from my apartment about RCN possibly experiencing “sun outages” between Feb 27 and March 8. I wonder if that’s what’s happening to Comcast?”

From RCN:

“Dear PoPville,

We live in a condo in an old row house. Our internet has never been great, but we’ve been without cable and internet for more than a week now. Comcast came out and pretty much threw up their hands and said it was an internal wiring issue. The technicians they recommended to troubleshoot internal problems came and said they don’t do anything beyond the outlet. We’re expecting our first baby in the next two weeks, which coupled with the current WFH situation makes the timing on this a bit more challenging. Read More

“Dear PoPville,

RCN is expanding into our neighborhood in DC and has offered us certain “courtesy services” for a utility easement to run power from our house to the street. Have any other readers dealt with a similar situation? We’d love to have internet/cable options other than Comcast but want to make sure we’re making a good long term decision.

Side note: Earlier this morning Caroline wrote: “Xfinity internet outage near 14th and W… anyone else experiencing this?” Others noted Bloomingdale was affected too. How has everyone’s internet been running the last couple weeks? Notice any changes?

“Dear PoPville,

RCN internet and cable have been down across many parts of the District since at least midday yesterday. Per my last call with customer service, they don’t have an estimate on when service will be restored. I even asked, “are we talking hours, days, or weeks?”, and she refused to give an estimate. When I asked how many people were affected, she responded, “A LOT.”

The lack of communication from the company is really disheartening – no service is going to be perfect, but do whatever you can to keep customers informed.” Read More

“Dear PoPville,

Several neighbors (and possibly others) received certified letters this weekend saying that AT&T was planning on putting a 5G light pole on our block–I imagine people throughout the city are receiving letters like this, unless ours is the only pole (at 16th and T Streets NW). They included drawings and some information, Read More
