“The future is looking clearer for Metrobus, as Metro and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announce the start of the 45-day minimum warning period for the Clear Lanes program. The goal is to improve bus speeds and reliability. Parked cars and vehicles illegally using dedicated bus lanes and bus stop zones slow buses down and impedes customer safety.

Under the program, cameras mounted on Metrobuses will capture video and photos of vehicles illegally operating, parking, standing, or stopping in dedicated bus lanes and bus zones. All enforcement will be handled by DDOT. Metro will not have any role in ticketing and enforcement. (more…)

“Metro has begun installing new higher, stronger faregates at Fort Totten Station as part of a systemwide rollout. The design improves upon the original prototype door following months of testing and modifications. The new doors are now 55-inches tall, twice as strong, and more resilient.

The installation at Fort Totten is expected to be completed overnight, followed by Pentagon City. The faregate modifications will be installed in phases with plans to retrofit faregates throughout the system over the next year. The first 10 stations are expected to be completed by early fall. “Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), co-chair of the Quiet Skies Caucus (QSC), celebrated with her colleagues after the House passed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Bill this morning and defeated a provision filed by Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT) that would have increased aircraft noise and congestion by adding seven round-trip flights to Reagan National Airport (DCA) per day. In total, five amendments from QSC members passed, strengthening the provisions increasing community collaboration on noise mitigation.

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a traffic fatality that occurred on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in the 3800 block of Reservoir Road, Northwest.

The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 12:42 p.m., a 2011 Audi Q5, operated by an adult female attempted to make a 3-point turn in the parking garage. During this time, the Audi accelerated and headed toward the parking garage wall. The driver of the Audi attempted to avoid the wall and drove toward a valet station area where individuals were waiting for their vehicles. (more…)
