A reader reports yesterday:

“I went to Giant Foods in Columbia heights to buy some groceries and I saw this mess in its parking garage. I was told it was a fourth car involved which was all destroyed, besides the truck that caused the accident. That happened on Saturday but I went on Sunday afternoon and the cars were still there.”

Ed. Note: To be clear, OP is kidding around with this note, I mean it happened but obviously she is kidding around. I preface this because history has taught me that some will be confused.

“Dear PoPville,

I may have fallen for someone this weekend… I can’t stop thinking about this guy I encountered in Rock Creek Park. (Fair warning: this might be long, but why should love have a character limit?)

It was a beautiful Sunday in the park, and people were out picnicking, biking, hiking, running, and walking. As I ran past Peirce Mill, a cyclist caught my eye – swarthy, lean, coral shorts. Fortunately the opportunity to initiate contact presented itself: he had sped by the sign instructing cyclists to walk their bikes. (more…)

A reader reports:

“This morning, I was putting away the trash cans and I found this bird scooter stashed under under my deck in Petworth.

Looks like someone destroyed it…and then literally “gave me the bird”.”

Courtney asks:

“have you heard about e-scooters being hidden? I’m seeing it more and more, I suspect this is why scooters are often not where my app says they are.”

Thanks to Hannah for sending:

“This train to Huntington arrived at Gallery Place (with no special announcement) and every door in every car had mesh netting up like in this picture saying “testing in progress.” What sort of testing do you think this is? So weird! “

Thanks to Hanna for sending a shot of this lunatic “guy riding a scooter in the I-395 tunnel heading south at rush hour.”

From WMATA:

“Metro is working to provide faster, better bus service by going cash-free on selected limited-stop MetroExtra routes and is seeking feedback from the public before implementing the change.

Passenger boarding and fare payment can take up to 25 percent of a bus route’s travel time. Research shows that cash payments take significantly longer than SmarTrip® taps, and takes even longer when customers add value to a SmarTrip card at the farebox. These transactions cause the bus to hold longer at the bus stop, resulting in a longer trip for all riders.

On designated cash-free routes, customers pay fare with a pre-loaded SmarTrip® card only. Cash and coins are not accepted and customers cannot add value to their SmarTrip card at the farebox. This makes boarding quicker because customers simply tap their card and board, instead of conducting more time-consuming transactions.

Metro is currently conducting a cash-free pilot program on a single route, the 79 MetroExtra along Georgia Ave/7th Street NW. The six-month pilot project runs through December 2018.

Metro is considering going cash-free on the following limited-stop routes: (more…)
