“Dear PoPville,

Some articles imply they’ll stay in DC but users have said they received an email saying they’re leaving the city and this article confirms that:

“Although the WSJ stated that Maven will continue to operate in larger cities like Detroit, Los Angeles, Washington D.C and Toronto, TechCrunch received conflicting information that the car-sharing service will be leaving Washington D.C., but Maven Gig will stay.”

Maven (“Own a Car? List Your Car. Rent It Out. Earn Money.”) seems pretty new to the city and I believe is actually being used on American University’s campus which just welcomed them to campus.”

Did anyone ever use Maven? Did you get an email from them?

From WMATA:

“Metrorail customers on the Red Line may notice a quicker commute starting July 7, as Metro resumes use of trains’ automatic door-opening feature. Over the past several months, Metro has tested and tuned the system and trained hundreds of train operators in advance of the milestone.

The automatic door opening feature is part of the original design of the Metrorail system, but its use was discontinued years ago due to a decline in reliability. (more…)

Ed. Note: So out of all the scooters available which do you prefer?

Thanks to Brooke for passing on:

“DC Riders,

We’d like to give you an update on our operations in DC.

We are suspending service for at least 30 days, complying with a DDOT order after informing them of an incident that occurred earlier today in our warehouse. There was a small fire in a storage area caused by a battery that had been previously removed from service. (more…)

Awesome. Thanks to Steven for sending:

“Looks like the first bus island is being built on 14th Street as part of the Streetscape project. This is at 14th and N. They’re apparently going to stretch all the way up to Florida. It explains why they’ve been tearing down shelters up and down 14th. They will be move to the islands once they’re built.” (more…)

Amazing. Thanks to a reader for sending on Saturday:

“Witnessed a girl riding a scooter in Shaw with a cat in what appears to be a purpose-built backpack.

Unclear how the cat feels about this.”

This takes me back to July 13th 2017, which was also awesome: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I have a driving etiquette/rule question that I could use your readers’ input on. It’s about whether to block cars or block bikers while I wait to safely turn right.

I drive home from work by going north on 11th St. NW and turning right onto Harvard St. NW. Harvard is one-way going east in this location. The northbound side of 11th St. consists of one lane for traffic and one lane of parked cars, with a bike lane in between.

When I turn right from 11th to Harvard, I often have to wait for pedestrians who are crossing Harvard in the crosswalk. I also have to wait for bikers (who I see in my right side mirror coming up behind me going north on 11th) to pass me on my right so I don’t hit them when I make my right turn.

While I wait with my right turn signal on, I do not start my turn and wait in front of the crosswalk because, if I do, I block the path for bikers who are going straight. (more…)
