Thanks to Joel for sending:

“From Mass Ave NW between 10th and 11th. This parking job is a work of art, the way it so perfectly captures what’s wrong with car culture. They couldn’t have gotten it more perfectly centered in a crowded sidewalk during the morning rush.”

Thanks to Elle for sending:

“Spotted outside of the Ronald Reagan Building at Federal Triangle for the Uber Elevate Summit — Uber Helicopter! Talking about safe operation of small aircrafts, delicery drones, and passenger vehicles in urban environments!

There’s been a lot of chatter over the years about helicopter noise…how will DC embrace this?”

“A festering problem in DC: idling tour buses, often parked illegally, often in residential neighborhoods. The driver of this bus said the road was blocked (it wasn’t) and there was nowhere else to park.”

I also noticed the below near the zoo: (more…)

“Maybe they most peak DC thing I’ve seen. Scooting around, obnoxiously large umbrella balanced between the legs, truly ingenious and this man should be idolized”

Ed. Note: I believe at most locations these are intended to slow down cars that are turning.

“Dear PoPville,

Any idea what these new lane blockers are supposed to be “solving?” They were recently installed along 13th St. at Kenyon, Columbia Rd. and a few other streets. They prevent cars from going around a car that is waiting to turn left. I suppose that might be a good idea to prevent cars turning right and hitting pedestrians crossing in the crosswalk with the green light, but Kenyon and Columbia are one-way going west. So no cars would be turning right.

All it does is back up traffic along 13th st. and encourage drivers to make more risky left turns.”

“Dear PoPville,

Has anyone else noted how terrible the streetcar signs are? The contrast is terrible. I can barely make out when the next streetcar is coming when I stand in front of the sign, much less across the street trying to decide if I should cross to take it. Why would they put these up? They should have taken a note from WMATA, their signs are at least legible.”

JG reported last night:

“Oops! Trolley over the sidewalk and up someone’s front steps at 6th and I Street, NW. Anyone see what happened? It was like this when I walked past at 11:30 pm.”
