“Dear PoPville,

Someone taking a bike onto the metro, someone locking one up with a bike lock at a normal bike post (not a docking station), someone sitting in a park with a bike in front of the person, while a Bikeshare dock is about 50 feet away. Thanks to Ben for sending: “Still adjusting to this new paradigm of the Nats being world %£#*€ champions, but even I, as a non-cyclist (but admitted scooter-hater) pulled it together enough to recognize this as appalling. “Dear PoPville,

I was riding in to work yesterday morning around 8:30am on 4th street, headed SE towards Navy Yard, when someone doored me. The right side of my body slammed into the door, I flipped over the door, and landed on my left side. My bike seat completely turned and my tires need to be looked at for repairs.

Police arrived on the scene, and I was taken to the ER by ambulance. I am lucky to say that I was able to walk away with some bruising on my ribs and legs and a fractured elbow. (more…)

Thanks to Christina (and everyone else) for sending:

“1414 17th St NW (Brunswick House) residents and neighboring buildings were evacuated at 4:30AM due to underground explosions. A loud bang (presumably a manhole cover blowing off) that shook the building woke up residents, followed by fire alarms and lights flickering. The police were keeping residents on P street and discouraged anyone from standing close to any manholes in the area. We were allowed to re-enter the building around 5AM, although there is no electricity.” (more…)
