Thanks to Amanda for capturing this dumpster fire of a parking job:

“This gem in SW made it about 36 hours.”

Not quite as entitled as the previous examples we’ve seen this week but, well, I can’t really think of a scenario for parking like this unless you are blind drunk or waaaaay to old to be driving. Remind me to tell you a story about the later that I witnessed a couple weeks ago.

A reader reports:

“Didn’t witness it first hand but when I boarded the train at Mt Vernon going to Chinatown and a man walked off with a skull mask out the door I entered. When I got in the car everyone had scattered to the ends and there were knife marks on the train car doors. An individual got a picture and reported in to police. It was around 9 AM.”

Updated report from another reader:

“Also it wasn’t a traditional skull mask. I thought it was a lizard mask (which is somehow scarier). It was definitely tan/yellow and not like a friendly cartoony skull.

When he got the knife out he said “I am going to kill the next person who touches me” and everyone near him crowded to the exit toward the back of the car near where I was sitting. I’ve never seen people react that way on Metro before. He said “oh now you’re all scared?” And followed the group to the back of the car. A man sitting in the wheelchair in the aisle stopped the knife/mask guy from coming any closer. I can’t imagine how scared the poor man in the wheelchair was. He got off our car at Mt Vernon Sq right after.

Also curious – because I’ve never seen a message like this from WMATA before: (more…)

*This series will feature any pets in a backpack/bag. On metro, or not. Corgi, or not.

Thanks to Alisse for sending: “Moment of sunshine in union during the horrendous red line clogging this morning”

Regarding the delays: Earlier Metro Transit Police reported:

“Rockville: MTPD and @mcfrs o/s for trespasser struck by train. Incident did NOT occur at station & was result of individual climbing fence. (There are *no* pedestrian crossings anywhere on Metro.) Rescue operations are underway.”

From WMATA:

“Rockville: All clear, trains have resumed normal 2-track operations. Remember, Rush Hour Promise even covers delays outside Metro’s control like this one. If delayed 10+ min, you’ll get $ back if SmarTrip is registered. You can register before midnight for today’s delays.”

“Dear PoPville,

WIth summer travel season coming up, I was wondering if you could ask the Popville community for reviews/recommendations about the best bus lines to take for a trip from DC to Philly, similar to a previous poll you had in 2011.”

Thanks to Adam for sending the shot above: “Mind blown, the new Jaguar I-PACE parked in front of Call Your Mother at 8:00am on Sunday! I had not previously heard of it or seen it, and it looked like a spaceship as I crossed the street (stopping to gawk caused me to be second in line for bagels instead of first). An electric car partially parked in the crosswalk… concerned about the environment, but less so the rule of law.”

Awesome find!! “Just drop me off at the bridge, no before the bridge, no, no stop!!” Ah the good old days.

Thanks to John for sending this piece of history: “’73 Plymouth Valiant. On 28th St. in Georgetown. Street legal. Complete with zone fares sticker and insurance decal indicating it was still picking up fares in ’88.”

From DDOT:

“1,500 new e-bikes will include new locking technology allowing parking outside of docks

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and its six partner jurisdictions announced that e-bikes will return to the Capital Bikeshare system this spring with a new mobile app experience that will include a hybrid locking technology.

“The return of the e-bikes is part of Mayor Bowser’s ongoing effort to improve active transportation and mobility in the District,” said DDOT Director Jeff Marootian. “These new and improved e-bikes will allow Capital Bikeshare riders to lock the bikes to bike racks at their destination, allowing unprecedented accessibility across all eight wards of the District.”

The 1,500 e-bikes will be added to the existing Capital Bikeshare fleet in a phased roll out throughout the spring. (more…)
