From WMATA:
“Metrorail customers will see improved service starting Monday morning, including the extension of Silver Line service, as a result of around-the-clock efforts by rail maintenance teams to get more trains into service.
Metro expects to have 39 trains in service Monday, with the addition of seven more train sets and an increase from the 32 trains that operated on Friday. The added trains will allow Metro to provide Silver Line service to Largo Town Center instead of ending at Federal Center SW and improve Green Line service to every 20 minutes. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Can we please discuss the terrible intersection design at Georgia Ave and Park Rd NW? The signage and signals make it so unclear what drivers should do and I witness daily road rage incidents because of it.
Are drivers supposed to come to a complete stop after turning onto Georgia Ave since they are immediately presented with a red light and you typically aren’t allowed to turn left across traffic on a red? Some drivers come to an immediate stop once they turn right onto Georgia Ave, which angers drivers behind them, and I’ve seen some of those angry drivers speed around the stopped cars (more…)

From WMATA:
“Metrorail service will remain at the current reduced levels through at least November 15 as Metro continues to work with the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission on a plan to get 7000-series railcars safely back into service.
Trains will continue operating every 15-20 minutes on the Red Line and every 30-40 minutes on all other lines. Silver Line service will continue to operate between Wiehle-Reston East and Federal Center SW only. Customers are encouraged, where it makes sense for them, to use Metrobus service as an alternative. “Dear PoPville,
was wondering best options for rental cars that won’t break the bank? Seems like enterprise/national rental cars are north of $2k even with corporate discounts, but was wondering if the community has other options of what we can do?”

Speaking of October 31st, don’t forget about the free rides from Lyft. From WRAP:
“Preparing to combat that time of year when, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 41-percent of all U.S. traffic deaths involve drunk drivers*, free Halloween Lyft rides will be offered to deter impaired driving throughout the Washington-metropolitan area, beginning Saturday, October 30, 2021.
Offered by the nonprofit Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP), the Halloween SoberRide® program will be in operation beginning at 10:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30 until 4:00 a.m. on Sunday October 31, 2021 as a way to keep local roads safe from impaired drivers during this traditionally high-risk holiday. “Dear PoPville,
We live in a converted row home 2 unit condo with separate electrical panels. Our condo neighbors have purchased a new EV and are looking to install a Level 2 charger. Have any other small condos dealt with this? Any guidance or insight?”

From the Mayor’s Office:
“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) kicked off Back to Basics Week by providing an update on safety improvement projects that will better protect pedestrians. Two weeks ago, the Mayor charged DDOT with accelerating roadway and intersection improvements that will enhance pedestrian safety, including the installation of speed humps, stop signs, right turn hardening measures, and high-visibility crosswalks. After today’s update, DDOT installed a new high-visibility crosswalk at the intersection of 24th Street and Calvert Street NW.
“These safety improvements are part of a series of well-funded projects across all eight wards that will make our streets and sidewalks safer,” said Mayor Bowser. “We ask the community to continue flagging safety issues for DDOT, continue to hold friends and family accountable for slowing down when they drive through DC, and together, we can make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.”
For the fall campaign, DDOT has implemented a wide array of traffic calming measures and other safety improvements. Since the Mayor’s announcement two weeks ago, DDOT has installed 91 speed humps at over 30 locations, installed or updated 16 stop signs, and installed right turn hardening devices at four locations.
