“Dear PoPville,

I made the unfortunately abysmal mistake of living on U street (technically I live on 12). And every day of my life I wonder why the city does nothing about the dirt bikes. They are loud (so so loud). They ride through red lights. They cut off traffic. They make U turns in the opposite lane in front of the law abiding drivers. They drive in the wrong lane. Every single thing about them is illegal. I parked illegally on accident for one morning and got $145 in parking and towing fees. (more…)

Thanks to Jad for sending at 10:39am from 14th and Meridian Place, NW in front of Karibbean Kitchen in Columbia Heights.

Update 2:20pm

From Alert DC: “DCFEMS reports the 3400 block of 14th Street NW, between Oak Street and Newton Street NW, is closed until further notice due to fire department activity. Please avoid the area and use an alternate route.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve heard that Lyft/Capital Bike Share has drastically stopped rebalancing downtown and has discontinued endless docks in the mornings to push more people to use Lyft which generates more income for them. I think the city has partnered and cooperated with them a lot but Lyft/Capital Bike Share kind of appears to changing the model. Does anyone know if the city is addressing this with Lyft/Capital Bike Share? I’m an annual member and use CBS daily. I understand that patterns have changed since the pandemic but pushing people to use Lyft (and/or just giving up) feels a little like a bait and switch, especially after the city has been so cooperative. And if the riders have noticed where you now routinely can’t get a bike/drop off a bike certainly Lyft/CBS knows and is choosing to not do anything about it?

This screen grab (above) is from 9:45 this morning (Wednesday) but it’s a representation of basically every morning now.”

Oof

Thanks to Adam for sharing from Adams Morgan: “I get the whole having to lock up scooters thing in DC, but someone seriously had to lock their scooter to my car?!

Scrapped up and dented the side of it too.”

Thanks to D. for sending:

“Saturday at 1 pm in Trinidad. Apparently some person was “trying to parallel park” and somehow ended up ramming into the houses. One porch column of two houses were destroyed. Nobody was injured, thankfully.

Never thought to see something like this on a quiet block.”

Thanks to Jenna for sending: “As seen at Hains Point this morning. Apparently it crashed around 2am, and drifted about 30 yds into the river before it full sunk. Not sure what happened to the occupant(s).”

DC Fire and EMS reported: “DCsBravest Fireboats assisted @usparkpolicepio & @DCPoliceDept Harbor Branch in removing a vehicle that went into the Washington Channel overnight. The single occupant, an adult male, was rescued at the time of the incident and uninjured.” (more…)
