From WMATA:

“Metro took control of the Silver Line Extension today at 6:00 a.m. This milestone, known as the “Operational Readiness Date” (ORD), marks the point where provisional care and control of the Extension – including six new Silver Line stations, 11.4 miles of new track, and a new rail yard – is formally transferred from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) to Metro.

The opening date for passenger service will follow an action by Metro’s Board of Directors on the final acceptance of the line from MWAA. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I visiting the US for the first time, arrived 2 days ago in Washington before heading to Phillie tomorrow. Absolutely love the city BTW!!

But I have no clue of what to expect in term of safety, police or if I should be cautious.

Anyway around 4.30pm, in l’Enfant Plaza, we where taking the escalator down to the lower platform to go the other side of the red line.

When reaching the bottom of the escalator and almost being on the blue line platform, someone sprayed my arm from the escalator going up. (more…)

Thanks to David and Donald for sharing around 10:45am: “Just walked by this about 15 mins ago. Both Q and 15th are blocked. I asked a cop about the condition of the driver of the overturned car and he said “we think they’re okay”

From Alert DC: “MPD reports the 1500 block of Q Street NW, between 15th Street and 16th Street NW, will be closed until further notice due to a vehicle crash. Please use an alternate route.” (more…)

Thanks to Brent and Melissa for sharing around 3:30pm Sunday: “From Florida an Rhode Island Ave NW…. Plate obliterated but based on inspection sticker placement- maybe a MD driver…

Also no other car around- seems like car vs pole…” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if I can get a little help with my attempt to get my scooter back. It was stolen out of my garage in Ivy City yesterday and I’m devastated.

A little back story: when the pandemic first hit I was working at NBC4. I was living in NoMa with roommates but decided to stay with my partner and her family in McLean since she drove and the metro wasn’t running. I also worked the overnight shift so the metro wouldn’t have been any use to me anyway. Anyway after the first case of Covid at my job, my partners family freaked out (for good reason) and I got the boot back to NoMa. For months I biked in the sweltering summer heat from NoMa all the way to the tv station in Tenleytown. I’d bike in the rain, at midnight, during the curfew due to the George Floyd protests. As the summer months tapered off and things cooled down I grew to enjoy that peaceful bike ride but i still was fearful that one late night someone knucklehead would try to knock me off my bike. One night after a long shift my mom drove from Baltimore to surprise me with a motorcycle helmet for my new scooter that would soon ease my fears biking home alone at night and my tired body from biking up Woodley Rd in the summer heat. I loved that scooter. It gave me freedom and safety in a time when my world was very scary. My mom who doesn’t have a lot of money bought me that scooter. She worked hard for it. I worked hard to maintain it. (more…)
