From WMATA:

“Metro’s Red Line customers will see more frequent service beginning Monday, December 5, as the transit agency continues to bring more 7000-series trains into service.

Red Line trains will operate every eight minutes during the peak periods of 6 – 9 a.m. and 3 – 7 p.m. to alleviate crowding during the busiest weekday hours. Red Line trains will operate every 10 minutes at all other times, except during scheduled trackwork. (more…)

Thanks to Tim for passing on “there is a lot going on in this tweet” from DC Fire and EMS:

“Technical rescue Union Station. Person suffering electrical injury after coming into contact with power while walking on roof of train car. Victim has been located beneath H St NE.”

Updates if/when more is learned.

Thanks to V. for sending from the U Street Metro: “…we decided that it might be electrified or something.”

I’m pretty sure an anvil would come smashing down on your head…

From the office of Councilmember Charles Allen:

“Today, DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6) are holding a joint press conference to announce Councilmember Allen’s Metro For DC bill will include two major additions when it comes up for a vote next Tuesday, December 6.

The bill makes all WMATA buses operating in the District free to riders beginning next summer

In a major win for DC’s nightlife and service sector, the bill funds overnight service for 12 major bus lines.

The bill still establishes a $10 million bus service improvement fund dedicated to annual investments in bus lanes, shelters, and other improvements to make bus service itself faster, more reliable, and more enjoyable.

The bill still provides a $100 monthly subsidy for all DC residents to use on Metrorail, buses outside of DC, or anywhere else SmarTrip is accepted. This is similar to what was previously announced. (more…)

Some interesting tweets from WMATA this morning:

“We’re continuing to look at ways to reduce fare evasion. The image shows a prototype customers will see at Fort Totten.”

“Here is another prototype shown that will be at Fort Totten to help reduce fare evasion.”

Also of note:

“We also have a new screen inside Columbia Heights. This screen will be an outward display of our security system.

“We want criminals to know we are watching you, and we will not tolerate any criminal behavior in our system.” says @wmatagm” (more…)

Ed. Note: I’m looking to put together a solid group of pennants like I did for the commemorative smartrip cards, you can see those here. If anyone else has other metro pennants please send my way (via email to [email protected]) so I can add to this group. Thanks!

Update: Ah I don’t think I’d seen this Silver Line metro card before, thanks to Doug for sending:

Thanks to Zach I. (and everyone else who emailed me) for sharing his commemorative Pennant score. And thanks to PuckBuddys and Randy for sharing some of their earlier pennants: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Has anyone experience a loss of cellular signal on the Green line right as they approach Mt. Vernon Square station? It happened a few times before to me but now I’m finding it happening almost every time I pass the stop. Would anyone know why this is the case? Could it be a dead zone?”

Update from WMATA: “The damaged fiber on the is also impacting customers on the Green Line between Mt Vernon Sq & Archives. Crews are working to make repairs, and we hope to have connectivity restored to everyone by the weekend. Thanks again for your patience.”
