“On October 6th, 2017, The Future of Sports, an interactive pop-up art installation that explores the relationship between sports and art, will open to the public. Located at 700 H Street NE, this two-story exhibition will bring a new experience to the District with interactive rooms, each focusing on a different sport including soccer, basketball, football, track, tennis, boxing, yoga, volleyball, and cycling. Lose yourself in 10,000 square feet of games, shoot a basketball in the hologram basketball court, throw a football in the football arcade room, sink into the volleyball court made out of salt, sign your name in our coloring locker room, and play in a graphic soccer room installation by local artist, Matt Corrado. “The Washington Nationals announced today that tickets for 2017 National League Division Series games at Nationals Park will go on sale for Nationals Fan Club members on Wednesday, September 27 at 10:00 a.m. (available for purchase online only). Fans can register for the Nationals Fan Club for FREE by visiting nationals.com/FanClub. Members will also receive exclusive content throughout the 2017 Postseason and into the 2018 season.

If any tickets are available after the Fan Club presale, National League Division Series tickets will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, September 28 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets for each game may be purchased either online at nationals.com/Postseason or by calling 888.632.NATS(6287) on a first-come, first-served basis. Saga of the Old Soldiers’ Home Golf Course Cont. Changes Coming? Thanks to Grant for passing on from Stars & Stripes:

“The head of the Armed Forces Retirement Home agency was removed Thursday from his job operating two military retirement homes after years of festering financial problems at campuses in Washington and Mississippi, said a senior Pentagon official.

Tillotson pointed to the golf course at the Washington campus as an example of a largely untapped potential moneymaker.

“The current administration treated [the course] as a cost issue. When we did some research on this, we said, ‘There’s an asset here,'” Tillotson said. “This is a model that many other retirement communities pursue across the country. We’ve seen no movement by the retirement home staff on driving these issues in a meaningful way.”

Council Member Robert White: “I am calling on everyday people and other elected officials to boycott the NFL until the League begins addressing racial inequality in a meaningful way.”

“I am boycotting the NFL and I am not happy about it. I absolutely love NFL football, and I look forward to football season every year. However, my love for the game does not eclipse my personal responsibility to take a stand against the unequal treatment of African Americans by the League.

The NFL has a culture of unequal treatment toward African Americans. It is not that the NFL avoids getting involved in causes, but that the cause of Black lives is not vital enough and that the African American demographic is not important enough for it to risk losing some viewers.

It is not okay, and at some point, people should move from social media posts and casual conversations to real action for change. (more…)
