“Dear PoPville,
I live in Dupont off 17th street and for WEEKS there has been an unidentifiable loud squeaking noise [video/sound of noise after jump] (like a metal fan in need of wd-40 or a squeaky wheel on a shopping cart) somehow nothing has been done about it and I am unable to discern what direction it is coming from so I’m unable to find whoever or whatever is responsible. “Dear PoPville,
We are at wits end with dealing with a nuisance property. For the past two years, we have tried first to be neighborly and also to deal with the landlord but to no avail. In fact, both landlord and tenants have asked us to “stop bothering them”.
The issues: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Something is working. The neighborhood has been a lot of quieter as of late. Saw where police busted two illegal ATV riders the other night.”

Last week we spoke about the DOH meeting about a “rat crisis” in Logan Circle. At that time I got a lot of messages about the crisis being in the whole city not just Logan. Well, Andrew now sends us this unpleasant clip: “Next to the drive-thru at the McD’s on Georgia Ave across from Howard U.”
Not good. Not good at all. To the video: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Ed. Note: In a Pickle closed down at Eastern Market back in March.

“Hello Number 1 Sons and Daughters,

Since 2012, we’ve made pickled and fermented food and drink that we’ve brought to our neighbors at farmers’ markets across the Washington DC area. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
We live in Near North East, in the middle of 4 empty houses and a massive restaurant. Rats are becoming an increasingly alarming problem in our alley and now our front yards. We have burrows, nests (including under the hood or our cars) and feces everywhere. The rats have trampled a “highway” across our grass, there are so many. Last night I set 7 traps outside on our property, our usual routine. This morning I found (more…)

From the office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton:
“Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), the co-chair of the Quiet Skies Caucus and a member of the Subcommittee on Aviation, announced that a trial helicopter noise reporting system is now operational in the National Capital Region (NCR). The trial system is run by the Eastern Region Helicopter Council and the Helicopter Association International. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will evaluate the results of the trial system. “Dear PoPville,
SPIN scooters have been piling up in front of our building all week. They’re locked to the signs, they’re locked all along our fence. Their weird alarms go off at all hours. I tried submitting a photo to SPIN customer service asking for them to be re-distributed but so far no response. (more…)
