“Ukrainian Protest March to Mark One Year of Full-Scale War”

“This Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24-25), the Ukrainian community from across the region will meet in DC to mark one year of full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. The main commemoration event in the Eastern US will be held at the Lincoln Memorial on Sat. (Feb. 25), at 2 PM.

Immediately following this rally at the Lincoln Memorial, local charity organization US Ukrainian Activists will hold a protest march from the National Mall, past the White House, to end at the residence of the Russian ambassador on 16th St. (more…)

Update: “The initial communication told us to leave early based on the US Marshals Service recommendation, but apparently it was based on the recommendation of one local US Marshals Service office in California.”

“Dear PoPville,

FYI, my federal agency just sent the following email:

“Please be advised that the US Marshals Service is recommending that federal employees evacuate from federal facilities today no later than 3 PM Eastern time (or your equivalent local time).”

Ed. Note: Earlier today we posted about a daycare closing at 3pm due to “Potential Risk of Riots and Rallies”.

Just got this notification from our daycare about an early closure due to risk of riots and rallies.

I saw this news alert that all MPD officers have been activated, but haven’t seen anything official from DC police or other entities.

I’ve never gotten an alert like this. Hopefully this is an intense over abundance of caution – wishing calm, safety, and peaceful activism for our city.”

“The mural is of the late Mahsa Amini and pays tribute to the Woman Life Freedom movement. Purpose of the mural is to help bring awareness to the revolution taking place in Iran and to help amplify the voices of silenced voices of the Iranian people. Weekly peaceful protests have been taking place in DC in support of this movement for the past 17 weeks.

The mural was painted by Rodrigo Pradel who is a prominent street artist. Rodrigo has another mural a couple blocks near 14th & U. (more…)
