Thanks to Nate for sending from Mt. Pleasant and Kilbourne St, NW on the side of the Subway. You can see past projections there, here. Admittedly, I don’t follow national news as closely as I do neighborhood news – what has CVS done to earn the honor?

Update: Hadn’t heard the rumors of a CVS coming to Bestworld:

This is the installation “To keep up the pressure on Congress on gun control, we’re laying 1 pair of shoes on the Capitol lawn for every kid we’ve lost to guns since the Newtown shooting.”

Another powerful of the protest:

UPDATE from Jos. A. Magnus:

“Please note that Ms. DeVos is not one of our investors, although some members of her family are. We are not at liberty to discuss our investors specifically but I can assure you that Betsy DeVos is not an investor.”

Due to the politics/behavior of some ownership, patronage always comes up when we talk about new openings for Jimmy John’s and Chick Fil A. Looks like Jos. A. Magnus Distillery is being added to that list. Dryhopped passes on the latest:

Jos. A. Magnus & Co. Distillery opened up in Ivy City back in August 2015. Does an ownership stake from Betsy DeVos influence your decision to patronize them?

“It’s going to look something like this, which we did in Paris in 2015”

“Dear PoPville,

To keep up the pressure on Congress on gun control, we’re laying 1 pair of shoes on the Capitol lawn for every kid we’ve lost to guns since the Newtown shooting.

We’re collecting shoes from people across the DC area for the installation, which is going to be early next week! All shoes will be donated  to DC area homeless shelters and charities.

Shoes can be donated at these locations through Sunday, March 11.

1412 Q Street, NW via The Bike Rack

From The Bike Rack:

“To our Bike Rack DC customers: We hear you!

The Bike Rack has maintained a long-standing and positive relationship with Bell Sports since opening our doors in 2007. In light of Bell’s recent acquisition by Vista Outdoors and Vista’s relationship with the NRA, it is our position that we must divest our relationship with Bell Sports at this time.

We’ve sold Bell and Giro helmets for over ten years now because those helmets do an excellent job keeping our customers safe. Unfortunately, we believe the NRA is actively making our customers less safe. The values of the NRA are simply incompatible with the values of The Bike Rack, and as such we feel compelled to join the NRA Boycott.

This is a decision we do not take lightly and one we gave a lot of careful and deliberate thought. (more…)

Maggie reports:

“All about the right for peaceful demonstrations but the fake guns are not cool.

Protest in from of the Embassy of The Philippines against their president. Signs read “No drive executions with our $”, “No more drug war”, etc.

A few of them on the Jeep are [holding fake guns], wearing full body black suits and face masks. Would be frightening out of context.”

March for our Lives:

“On March 24, the kids and families of March For Our Lives will take to the streets of Washington DC to demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools today.

March with us in Washington DC or march in your own community. On March 24, the collective voices of the March For Our Lives movement will be heard.

Mission Statement

Not one more. We cannot allow one more child to be shot at school. We cannot allow one more teacher to make a choice to jump in front of a firing assault rifle to save the lives of students. We cannot allow one more family to wait for a call or text that never comes. Our schools are unsafe. Our children and teachers are dying. We must make it our top priority to save these lives.

March For Our Lives is created by, inspired by, and led by students across the country who will no longer risk their lives waiting for someone else to take action to stop the epidemic of mass school shootings that has become all too familiar. (more…)
