Now that we got the whole stamp situation sorted, sorta – let’s move on to the meat of the issue. A reader has requested on open thread on the upcoming election so here it is. Personally I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts about the At Large Council Race that has gotten rather contentious lately. But feel free to talk about all the races you plan on voting for from Mayor to Ward to State Board of Education down to your local ANC.

For those looking for voting guides, DCist has a good one here and Greater Greater Washington has one dedicated to ANC races here.

So, let’s start with the At Large Race are you leaning – Bonds, Reeder, Silverman (no relation) or other?

And whoever you’re gonna vote for – please do vote!

From a press release:

“Attorney General Karl A. Racine today filed a lawsuit seeking to force U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials to provide answers about recent ICE enforcement actions in the District. The lawsuit alleges ICE did not properly respond to AG Racine’s requests demanding information about ICE raids in predominantly Latino communities in the District this summer. The requests asked ICE to identify the individuals who were detained, give reasons for the detentions, and explain the agency’s immigration enforcement policies. OAG’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit asks a federal court to order ICE to respond to the requests. (more…)

Well, this is something. Captured by L.A. Kauffman around 8am outside Mitch McConnell’s house:

“What do we do with a drunken justice?” Protesters stage Kavanaugh confirmation kegger outside Mitch McConnell’s home in advance of cloture vote #StopKavanaugh #CANCELKAVANAUGH”

Yesterday WAMU reported:

“The D.C. Council will vote next Tuesday on a bill repealing Initiative 77, the ballot measure approved by D.C. voters in June that would gradually raise the minimum wage paid to tipped workers.

The bill repealing Initiative 77 already has seven co-sponsors, the exact number needed to pass the Council. But because it is being considered as an emergency measure, it will need nine votes to pass, and would only remain in effect for 90 days. The Council would eventually have to vote on a permanent repeal bill.”

So should the Council repeal the bill completely, not at all or work on some sort of compromise?

To the polls!!

From Fiola:

“A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.
-Sir Winston Churchill

My team at Fiola make me proud. They perform to the highest level of professionalism and passion for our craft. On Monday night, an incident occurred that is not part of a normal dinner service. It required clearing a restaurant of protesters disguised as patrons at the bar and escorting Senator Ted Cruz and his wife through a side passage, while not skipping a beat with the other dinner guests who had joined us for a meal. Tyler Hatch tweets us:

“You can delete a tweet @ShawsTavern but you can’t delete the receipts. Extremely insensitive promo offered by #ShawsTavern today”

Ed. Note: In June 2017 Shaw’s Tavern had massive lines for the equally anticipated Comey Congressional hearing. Puts today’s initial decision, if flawed, in a bit of perspective.
