LOST: Black/White Husky named London:

“We lost our black/white husky/shepherd mix named London. He is about 50 pounds. He is a rescue and is probably more scared of you than anything. He escaped around 12:00pm today around Cleveland park metro. If you see him please call or text Jacki at 773-575-7190.

With tonight’s low temperatures, we greatly appreciate your help in finding him.”

UPDATE: Found!

“This cat followed us home to Belmont Street NW between 13th and 14th. Does not look like a stray. Just seems lost. Can you post a pic and see if any owner comes forward? If not we will probably have to drop it off at Humane Society. Our dog does not love cats. Thanks.”

If this is your cat or know who’s it is, please email amckechnie77(at)gmail.com

Short Articles about Long Meetings shares the news:

“A committee of Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 1B/U Street voted December 16 to endorse the request for zoning variances necessary for the establishment of a day-care service for dogs on the first floor of a mixed-use building at the corner of 14th Street and Florida Avenue NW. The recommendation of the Design Review Committee will now go to the full ANC for consideration at the next meeting in January.”

Design failure

“Dear PoPville,

The Newark Street Dog Park paid big bucks for a fountain like this one. What’s wrong, you ask? EVERY male dog pees on (and into) the doggy bowl at the bottom. I wonder what genius designed it? The purpose of my rant is not to condemn the good folks who wasted untold dollars on it. Everyone makes mistakes. But new dog parks are, thank goodness, being built. Maybe this would help others avoid making the same costly mistake. FYI, I have never seen a human drink from the top part.”

“Dear PoPville,

I found this dog this morning around 10AM near my house on Capitol Hill at 10th and D NE. A neighbor walking her dog found the dog running around the streets and we put her in my backyard for now so that she wouldn’t be running wild. She’s a small black Chihuahua looking mix.

Anyone with info can contact info(at)eidolonfilms.com”

ARCHIE RESTING THE DAY AFTER HE GOT HOME, WITH HIS GOOD SIDE UP

“Sorry for the delay in posting this, but I wanted to give everyone an update on Archie (aka Scrappy).

He is doing well under the circumstances. The hospital released him late Tuesday evening, and we have pretty much taken the week off and stayed home to monitor him. Miraculously he had no catastrophic injuries. His lungs, heart, spine etc were unharmed. He has a very large gash on one leg that cannot be sutured, so we’ve been taking him to the vet every day to have the dressings changed. He had a nicked spleen which caused some internal bleeding but the vet decided to let it heal on its own.

We remain concerned about some high liver test numbers which we hoped would have gone down by now, but so far our vet is not too alarmed. There seems to be some cartilage damage on the one leg, which we won’t know for awhile whether he has any permanent mobility issues. He is walking though, and I even took him for a stroll around the block this morning. (We went past 14/S, I guess sort of a get back on the horse concept!)

Other than that, he had some pretty horrific road burn, which has already begin to heal. The first few days he was lethargic, but the last few days his spirit has slowly been returning. We cannot express how enormously grateful we are to have him.

The final vet bill at Friendship Animal Hospital was significantly less than the estimate, and I noticed later at home that they removed several charges from the estimate so it seems they definitely cut us a break. He got absolutely fantastic care there, and we are very appreciative of their efforts. (more…)
