“Dear PoPville,

We found a cat last night on a vent on the Howard University Campus near the football field (so about Georgia and Fairmont Ave). He/she had no tags and is dark grey color. It approached us quickly when we fed it and was very affectionate as well. We dont know if it ran out accidentally from someone’s home or if it was abandoned but definitely not a cat that had grown up outside. We brought it to the Washington Humane Society on New York Ave as it’s getting very cold and we took the attached picture of the cat upon arrival to the shelter. Hopefully it can be re-united with its owner or find a loving, happy home.”

“Dear PoPville,

This morning at about 8:35 i was walking to the bus stop and saw a little white dog eating some garbage in my block, and I didnt recognize him as any of my neighbors dogs so I assume he is lost. “He” (couldve been a she) had a collar on but I couldnt tell if it had tags. I tried to coax him over but he spooked and ran away. I saw him on the 1400 block of Parkwood place running towards 14th street (by the Exxon station). He was small to medium, white, shaggy, about 20 pounds I’d guess. Looked like his collar was blue or purple. Very timid- took off running when i took one step towards him.”

Three Fifty Bakery & Coffee Bar opened up at 17th and U St, NW back in early August. Just noticed this sign out front:

UPDATE from 350Bakery in the comments:

“Hello, I opened Three Fifty Bakery as a Pet Friendly bakery. Having two amazing dogs myself, I purchased water bowls and plan on baking dog treats soon. In November, a customer informed us that it is against DC Health Code to have dogs on our patio. This customer then went outside and took a picture of a dog on our patio. I started to investigate and was told by many people that it was allowed….so I continued to allow it. A few weeks ago, we were paid a visit by the DC Health Department and told that it is not allowed. They said the exterior patio is an extension of our interior. I even said I would take down the fence if that would change things, but was informed that it wouldn’t. As you can imagine, a small business’s worst fear is being shut down for a health violation. Please realize how upset and disheartened that I had to put signs up. If anyone knows anything that I can do to get approval to allow dogs, please let me know and I’ll try to do it.

Sincerely,
Jimmy”

“Today I found this sweet, older male dog around 14th and Independence SE, though he was moving along and no neighbors knew him so I’m guessing he came from further away. He is skinny and has a collar but no tags. He got along great with my dog but was barking in the apartment so I had to take him to the Humane Society on New York Ave. If you know anything about this dog or if you want to adopt him please contact the Washington Humane Society, 202-567-6664.”

Lots more details have been revealed with the launch of Crumb & Whiskers, Cat Cafe, new website:

“Crumbs & Whiskers brings together some amazing things. Specifically coffee, tea, cupcakes, and you guessed it…cats! DC’s cat cafe will serve as a foster home for the Humane Society’s shelter cats and as a really fun place to hang out for DC residents. The concept is pretty simple. Cats in cages are sad, so we get them out of there. Anyone without a cat is sad (or should be), so we hook them up. Then, we give everybody cake and coffee and tea. The end.

C&W will also showcase local art, have an awesome selection of books & board games, and provide guests with unnecessary amounts of cats toys.

Preparation– To make sure that none of your food is featuring a special appearance by that fun ingredient known as “cat hair”, Crumbs & Whiskers will not prepare any food in-house. Instead, we are partnering with some great local food providers. (Details to come!)

Experience – All food/drinks will be complimentary. Just grab a seat, and at your own leisure, walk over to the drink & desserts bar and grab whatever you fancy!

Online Reservation – You will be able to schedule your visit through an online reservation system. Reservations will be made in half-hour and one-hour time slots. All last minute cancellations will be posted on our Twitter account, so make sure you check that on days that we are fully booked!

Cover Fee – There will be a fixed hourly cover charge for weekdays and weekends/holidays. If you don’t want to hang out for as long as an hour, you will also be able to reserve time in half hour chunks. Pricing will be released closer to launch. Stay tuned!”

“I am writing to report our lost cat, Zella Mae. She has been missing since Sunday night from our home in Silver Spring at the corner of Bristol Avenue and Argyle Road (just east of the Sligo Creek Golf Course).

She is not micro-chipped, unfortunately.

She is a brown tabby with white on her breast and paws. About 13 lbs. Very friendly. Has white and orange patch on her snout.

She used to live in the Scooby Doo Mansion in Mt. Pleasant and therefore may have wandered in that direction from her new home.

She is very beloved! Any information on her whereabouts or other measures as to how to proceed would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Julie and Garrett Bradford
