Update from Rock Creek Park NPS: “We are seeking funding for the repairs to the cascading fountain at Meridian Hill Park. Work needed to be completed before the fountain can operate includes additional rehab of deteriorated concrete & replacement of the variable frequency drive water pump.”

Carter Christensen asks:

“Serious question re: Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park – who can we talk to, or advocate, to get these fountains back on and this park the attention and care it deserves? It’s a shame this space just sits here like this year after year to no avail – the city deserves better.”

“The National Park Service (NPS) and National Links Trust (NLT) will rehabilitate Rock Creek Park Golf Course, one of the oldest public golf courses in the country. The rehabilitation of the 100-year-old course in northwest Washington, D.C., is expected to start in late 2024 and take two years to complete.

“Dear PoPville,

I was walking in Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park last Monday (3/18) and I noticed this line of trash and sticks on the upper level towards the Joan of Arc statue on the 15th St. side. I was also at the park that weekend and didn’t see it then, but I think I have seen something similar there in the past. Does anyone know what it is?”

Ed. Note: Last year an off leash dog attacked a beaver (that had to be euthanized) in Rock Creek Park, Park Police were looking for info.

I was running in Rock Creek (Saturday) when I had a moment that kinda ruined a glorious day: an unleashed dog chased me off the trail, barking and snarling, with flecks of saliva hitting my legs as I danced back into the bushes. I was sure I was going to get bit and mentally calculating which part of my body should take the brunt. (more…)


“Dear PoPville,

I need advice on dealing with the aftermath of an incident between my dog and another dog over the weekend. My dog was off-leash and playing in the park, surrounded by several other unleashed dogs, when another unleashed dog approached him. My dog and the other dog circled one another and barked at each other several times before they were separated. I was watching my dog closely the entire time and never saw him put his mouth on the other dog. Two other owners who observed the incident also said they did not see a bite.
