From the Maryland-National Capital Park Police (Wednesday):

“This evening at Sligo Dennis Park an officer addressed the owner of this vehicle before it had the chance to become a nuisance to park patrons and nearby residents.

Remember, amplified music is prohibited in all parks.”

From the National Park Service:

“The National Park Service has completed the Environmental Assessment for the future management of Beach Drive in Rock Creek Park.

To improve recreational opportunities, minimize impacts to natural and historic resources, and address the needs of people who drive and those who use non-motorized transportation, we are proposing to close the upper portion of Beach Drive NW to motorized vehicles from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day every year.
The NPS will hold a public meeting on this proposal on July 18 at 6:30pm. The public is invited to review the Environmental Assessment and share comments and questions through August 11.”

“Harrison playground baseball field locked”

“Dear PoPville,

Any complaints about the DPR and their ridiculous regulations for using “athletic” fields? I’ve lived over here on v street next to Harrison park (basketball court, kids jungle gym, and baseball field)… and the DPR keeps it locked like 95 percent of the time. One of the only green spaces around and it’s locked up. (more…)

From a press release:

“Four commissioned public art pieces were announced today by the 11th Street Bridge Park – a partnership between the local non-profit Building Bridges Across the River and the District government – reflecting the park’s design principles and values. In response to over 200 community meetings where public art was prioritized, a lighted sculpture inspired by plants growing along the Anacostia River; a mural depicting the African American and Native American experiences tied to caring for the land, hammocks created to honor DC culture reflective of the community; and design of a mobile, small business kiosk aimed at supporting East of the River Black entrepreneurs were selected from over 60 entries by the park’s curatorial committee comprised of local residents, experts, and artists. “Dear PoPville,

My family and I saw something in rock creek park (Western Ridge Trail) — it is indescribable. Someone who replied to my post suggested that I turn to you for a possible answer. So many have replied with answers such as: a drone, a huge spider web that trapped debris, sticky bug traps, or… a ufo. Someone even answered that they saw the same thing almost 1.5 years ago! So, i turn to you. I hope you’re able to provide some insight on this “thing.” Curious neighbors need answers!”

Could this be one of the Randomly Found Floating Chandeliers seen around town?

Update: “The owner and dog were found yesterday. The dog has been taken into a 10 day quarantine by animal control. We found out today he has a current rabies vaccine (big relief). We are uncertain what will happen after the 10days, but at present it sounds like he will be released to his prior owner (who was questioned, but not taken into custody). A concern for ongoing public safety persists. The immediate threat of the dog and rabies has been removed, but potentially only for the next 9 days.”

“Dear PoPville,

Dog Attack: Yesterday my 1.5-year-old was attacked by an unleashed pit-bull at the Park at LeDroit. Please help us find the man in the video and his dog, we need to confirm rabies is not a threat and ensure the dog is not a threat to others.

Details: ~11am yesterday a man (middle aged, African American) and his dog (white pit-bull with black spots) came to the Park at LeDroit, yelled at the Nannie’s and babies about how this was his park and then his dog attacked my son at the splash pad. (more…)
