hahaha amazing suggestion from Save Church Road:
“How ’bout something more like this? (JK. All our votes–like 3M–will be write-ins for Lt. K. McRae. #DCFD)”

Yesterday morning we woke up to the happy news that the Bill Cosby mural had finally been removed from the Ben’s Chili Bowl mural on U Street. Alas the sad news was that President Obama, Chuck Brown and Donnie Simpson went down too. And this morning the wall quickly went from white to worse:

So a replacement is needed post haste! We mentioned yesterday that Ben’s was taking a poll to see who the replacements will be this year. There were 56 options, with some uh interesting choices, with many very good ones. Another option was to write-in your choice. Yesterday DC Fireman commented that Lt. Kevin McRae would be an excellent selection to honor his memory. Lt. McRae perished fighting a fire in Shaw in 2015. This movement to vote Lt. McRae is starting to gain steam and I wholeheartedly endorse it. So if you are going to vote – please do include Lt. McRae of blessed memory. Thank you.

Had I known I woulda taken a few more.

And just like that the Bill Cosby mural controversy concludes. You can see what the mural looked like when it first went up in Sept. 2012 here.
Caroline reports:
“Just walked by Ben’s and it looks like they’ve completely white washed over the mural on the alley side. I literally think they did in in the dead of the night because the guy was still painting at 7 am.”
Ben’s website says:
“The mural alongside Ben’s was painted in 2012. Now, after 5 years of braving the elements, its time to refresh and repaint the mural and we want your input! Below you will have the opportunity to pick your top 6 nominees from those listed below. You may also pick your favorite group of people, write in a name for consideration, and write in a complete group of your own. Thanks for your support and suggestions for our 2017 Mural.”
Nominees for the new mural include: (more…)

From a press release:
“Renowned forerunner in the beverage industry Juan Coronado and partner Daniella Senior are proud to announce the opening of Colada Shop in Washington, DC, a concept that blends together the contemporary lifestyles of Washingtonians with the Cuban traditions of starting and ending the day. Paying homage to this Caribbean way of doing coffee, food, cocktails and social lifestyle, Colada Shop is a casual café and eatery where guests come for the quality of offerings and the unmatched hospitality. The second location of Colada Shop will open on Wednesday, February 1st, at 1405 T St NW, Washington DC.
“We are very excited to come to DC and to this incredible and dynamic neighborhood”, said Senior. “This second outpost will be a much cozier interpretation of our sister location in Loudoun County but will have the same energy, vibrancy, and – of course – incredible Cuban bites and drinks.”
