This is what it’s gonna look like across the street from Darnell’s:

965 Florida Ave, NW near 9:30 Club

17th and U Street, NW

DC_085 with the unpleasant news this am:

“two large piles of horse manure at stop #1001675. Not sure what sort of horse goes around pooping at night (@DCPoliceDept ?) but here we are…”

Props to DC311 for the quick reply: “May I have the location for your request?”

Of course it’s possible this wasn’t a horse at all…

BREAKING UPDATE from Robert:

“I live next to ground zero. I can confirm that there was indeed a horse gallivanting up and down U St. talked to the guy, he explained he got permits from the city to ride his horse.”

Regarding Tenleytown, MPD reported at 9:30pm:

“Robbery (Gun)//2130 hrs//4400 block of Wisconsin Ave, NW. LOF: (2) B/M’s, black hooded sweatshirts, black mask, black backpack, armed with a handgun.”

Alan Henney reported:

“u/d Tenleytown Armed Robbery- Jimmy John’s sounds like the actual target of the robbery. Police are now searching the Wilson Swim Center for gunman.”

Regarding U Street, around 7pm a reader reported:

“There is a helicopter circling on 14th and U, have any others reported the same thing?”

Not 100% sure if related but earlier MPD reported at 6:17pm which could be related to another more violent recent incident:

“Robbery Snatch at 1817 hrs at 15th & U Streets, NW. Lookout for Suspect B/M, teens, light completed, hat, maroon hooded sweatshirt last seen fleeing eastbound on U Street, NW.”

12th and U St, NW

The following was written by PoPville contributor David McAuley, founder of Short Articles about Long Meetings.

A committee of Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 1B/U Street heard and unanimously approved a plan to add a second story to Dukem Ethiopian Restaurant (1114-1118 U Street NW) last night (November 20). ANC1B’s Zoning, Preservation and Development Committee had a surprisingly quiet presentation and debate.

“I am shocked that there is no one here from the community,” said committee chair Patrick Nelson.

Dukem Ethiopian Restaurant, like many DC restaurants, has a settlement agreement with the ANC and perhaps other parties. These settlement agreements can cover a wide variety of topics, but often they deal with matters like hours of operation and trash disposal. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I have a Chevy Volt and use the charge point at 14 and U St, NW. When I just went there were two cars non charging that were using the spot. The one car had an occupant, and I asked her to move since it is an assigned spot. She was very rude and asked me what I was going to do about it (which was really not much), and then proceeded to tell me “f*ck off f*g”. Is there anything that could be done about these parking violations?”

From a press release:

“Dyke Bar Takeover (DBTO), the NYC activist group dedicated to reclaiming space for queer women-identified and genderqueer people, launches its newly minted DC Chapter with a kick-off event on Saturday, November 18th, 2017 at The Dirty Goose on U Street.

The event on November 18th aims to be the first in a series marrying activism and community building. The inaugural “Dyke Nite” will run from 6p to 10p at The Dirty Goose and showcase music from Brooklyn-based queer performer ‘DJ Andro’. Wristbands, available by donation, will provide the wearer access to $4 rail drinks and other specials. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Queer Visibility Collective, a national initiative to combat the death of queer space.

DBTO was founded in response to the rapid disappearance of physical space by and for queer women, trans, and non-binary people across the country. (more…)

From an email:

“In the past two months almost 700,000 Rohingya refugees have traversed the monsoon rains and bloodied fields of Myanmar into Bangladesh’s make-shift and overcrowded refugee camps. Given the scale and pace of death and devastation, the UN, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch have all called the violence nothing short of “ethnic cleansing” at the hands of Myanmar’s security forces.

The UN’s children’s agency (UNICEF) estimates that 60% of these refugees are children. They have witnessed their homes go up in flames, and their families and friends brutalized, raped, and murdered. In their trauma they have traversed for days over the minefields of Myanmar to reach the refugee camps of Bangladesh, which has opened its borders to them.

The ordeal of Rohingya children does not end here. Tens of thousands are now in the midst of an “acute and severe” malnutrition; and they remain vulnerable to kidnapping, sex trafficking, exploitation, and the psychological impacts of having had their lives uprooted in the most violent ways. Dozens are going missing every day.

There is a way to help, and Washington DC is coming together on the evening of November 14th at The Gibson (2009 14th St, NW) for vibrant night market inspired food and cultural experience at to help create Safe Havens for the over 400,000 Rohingya refugee children in the refugee camps of Bangladesh.
