boil_water_advisory

From a press release:

“The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water) advises customers to boil their water for cooking and drinking if they are experiencing low water pressure, especially in areas West and Southwest of Rock Creek Park (see the updated map at link in press release). If customers do not have water service, they are advised to boil water when service is restored. If customers are not experiencing low water pressure and do not live in the affected area, customers do not need to boil their water.

On March 5, the Ft. Reno Pumping Station experienced a power outage that was isolated to the DC Water system. Due to a loss of pressure, affected customers are advised to boil their water until further notice. To minimize risk, customers should follow the instructions outlined in this advisory (more…)

“I wanted to send a community “thank you” to the Christmas Carolers at my front door yesterday evening around 6:30pm in Tenleytown! Thank you for the holiday cheer. (sorry for the poor video quality, I didn’t have my phone camera light on at the time)”

“Dear PoPville,

They’re ripping down some long abandoned buildings on the corner of Brandywine and Wisconsin! Do you happen or can you find out what (if anything) is going to be put there???”

This is the former Babe’s Billiards space. It is going to become Tenley View from Douglas Development:

“Tenley View is the most exciting mixed-used apartment project to hit Washington DC’s Tenleytown neighborhood in years. Located at the bustling intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Brandywine Street, the new building will include a modern, mid-rise atop the former Babe’s Billiards building. The property will feature over 19,000 square feet of retail on the lower two levels and five levels of apartment units. This project was the first new construction residential development in the District of Columbia to receive approval to be built without any parking at all. The new building will be marketed to residents who rely on the close proximity to Metro service just one block away.

Facts

68,500 rentable square feet (18,783 sf retail; 49,717 sf residential)
Historic building built 1949; Acquired 2009; Redevelopment 2013-2014

60 rental apartment units
Metro Access: One block from Tenleytown (Red Line)”

“Dear PoPville,

I heard from employees there that it will be closing for up to two years as the building is razed & rebuilt (along with two adjoining buildings). This is a neighborhood institution, a 24-hour dive diner that’s been there for decades. Big deal for Tenleytown. The employees said it was initially supposed to close in November but that they recently got word it has been delayed until January 2014.”

I called the store but they were unable to give firm timelines and the owner was not at the store. So it is not clear if they will close this January or next January. But it is clear at some point it’s looking like Steak ‘n Egg will be closing for extensive renovations. In June a Raze permit was issued for 4700 Wisconsin Ave, NW. At that time CityPaper reported:

“Developer Frank Economides, who owns the property and filed the permit application, says Steak ‘n Egg isn’t disappearing. The raze permit application was an early step in the process of a potential expansion of the restaurant.”

It now seems, while Steak ‘n Egg won’t disappear completely, they are likely to take an extensive hiatus during renovations. Stay tuned for more info on the timeline as it becomes available. For the moment they remain open. You can check out their menu here.

A few weeks ago reader wondered if Firelake Grill was still coming to the former Ruby Tuesday space at Van Ness and Wisconsin Ave, NW?

Thanks to another reader for the update:

“Fire Lake Grill (Corner of wisconsin NW and Van Ness NW in Tenleytown) has new signage up so it seems like they are closer to opening. The name in red lights and the logos on the windows and doors are new (within the last 24 hours since I walk by every day)”
