From MPD:
“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that took place on Saturday, November 7, 2015 in the 1700 block of 8th Street, Northwest.
At approximately 2:21 am, members of the Third District heard sounds of gunshots in the area. While investigating, they received information that an adult male victim had arrived at an area hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. Lifesaving efforts failed, and the victim was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 28-year-old Reginald Perry of Northwest, DC.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. “Dear PoPville,
There is a rubber gasket and significant gap running down 9th street next to the convention center. I believe it extends from N to New York Ave. What is this and why is it here? My best guess is that rather than digging a tunnel for the metro here they essentially built a big platform on top of it for the road and the convention center, so this functions as an expansion joint like you’d see on a bridge. The gap is wide enough for a bike tire to slip into it, which I was unfortunate enough to experience while changing lanes recently.”
Been a while since we’ve talked about these:
“They are expansion joints. Due to changes in weather, hot and cold, materials expand or contract. You will most commonly see these on bridges. The reason why the convention center has these is because of the sky walks over the streets. The expansion joints allow the entire building to move together and prevents cracking.”

From an email:
“Please join us for Oxfam America’s Hunger Banquet on Wednesday, November 18, 2015.
As the holiday season begins with the consumerism and overeating of Thanksgiving, we invite you to an alternative dining event to help you see hunger and inequality in a whole new way. The Oxfam America Hunger Banquet is nothing like your typical banquet dinner; it is an experiential event where your meal will be determined by the luck of the draw. Are you feeling lucky?
The Banquet will take place between 6 and 8pm on November 18th at the Wonder Bread Factory in Shaw (641 S St NW) and WUSA9’s Delia Gonçalves and WAMU’s Pat Brogan will lead the participants through the program.
Oxfam America is a global organization working to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice around the world. For more than 40 years, Oxfam America Hunger Banquets have been changing the way people think about global hunger, one plate at a time. As we prepare to celebrate the abundance of food this holiday season, join us and spend an evening in someone else’s shoes. You may never see things the same way. Note that the Hunger Banquet is free and we expect it to fill up fast, so please RSVP!

Chrome’s website says:
“For over a decade, the creative communities throughout every major city have used Chrome bags, footwear and outerwear to help them survive the demands of the city. Wrenched is a tribute to these people and the cities in which they live and create in. Through each of their own unique perspectives, we’re given an insight to the best of everything their neighborhoods have to offer. This isn’t a guide to the same old played out tourist traps that you’ve already heard about a million times over. This is a glimpse into each city that we feature as told by its locals. This is the real-real … For tourists and lifers, alike.”

Ivy and Coney’s new retractable roof deck is almost done. It took a little longer than expected (and obviously finishing touches are ongoing) but it turned pretty damn nice. There’s a pool table under this tarp:

6 tvs:

Separate outdoor bar (not to mention new kitchen.) Pardon the language but Bull Durham fans will be happy:

Stay tuned for an exact opening date very soon.

Looks like Ambar is coming to the beat up building catercorner to Dacha after all. The placard says:
“New Restaurant serving Balkan food. Total Occupancy Load is 250. Sidewalk Café with 34 seats.”
Obviously a ways to go before they open. You can see their menu from their Capitol Hill location here.

From a press release:
“Top DC independent and minority-owned women’s apparel boutique Lettie Gooch announced that it will open its doors in The Shay in early November, joining an impressive line-up of retailers, including Warby Parker, Kit and Ace, and Compass Coffee.
Lettie Gooch, which operated on the U Street corridor for the past 6 years, will return to its home in Shaw, where it got its start in 2006.”

Compass Coffee regularly has lines out the door at their 1535 7th Street, NW location. The new location is on 8th Street just south of Florida Ave (north of T and All Souls Bar.) This is the second super popular coffee shop to open their 2nd location recently – last week The Coffee Bar opened their 2nd spot on 17th Street. Good news for coffee lovers around town.
