“So, why is this island causing so much carnage?”

“Dear PoPville,

Sometime during the week of March 3, 2019, the District Government installed a traffic island (or maybe it’s a Pedestrian island, not sure which is correct) at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Morton Street, Northwest.

No doubt this island is needed as new nearby businesses attract local residents to Georgia Avenue in numbers that significantly increase interactions between pedestrians and drivers. I don’t have any information on any incidents at this intersection or any others nearby, however, I have seen a number of instances when pedestrians attempting to cross Georgia Avenue in my neighborhood have almost been killed or severely injured by drivers that do not yield to pedestrians attempting to cross. “Dear PoPville,

Over the last couple of months Morgan’s Seafood has been replacing drywall, windows and wall cladding. It looks like more significant work may need to be done, but it looks a lot better. There was a sign earlier advertising the Georgia Avenue Facade Improvement project, which I have never heard of. I wish something would be done to reactivate the corner across the street that had a liquor store and parking lot, as it’s a prime location with a lot of apartments and condos being added to the area.”

“Dear PoPville,

in light of today’s post regarding the assault of the dog walker, I wanted to share what happened to my friend earlier this week, as they might be related.

Around 11 a.m. on Wednesday 1/16, while walking in Columbia Heights, my friend was pulled into an alleyway at the corner of Sherman Ave. and Irving St. NW by two male assailants, who covered her mouth and threatened to stab her if she did not keep quiet. The men were incredibly violent as they stole her bag and patted her down for any other possessions, ultimately pushing her down a set of cement basement stairs and breaking her leg. (more…)
