700 block of Florida Ave, NW

A reader reports that in Shaw he heard 5-6 shots fired.

From MPD:

“MPD is investigating calls for sounds of gunshots in the area of the 700 block of Florida Ave NW and the Unit block of Florida Ave NE. There are no victims at this time. Due to traffic congestion, please avoid those areas until further notice.”

Updates when/if more is known/released.

1222 First Street, NE

“Dear PoPville,

This morning they started the demolition of the old nightclub Ibiza at First and Patterson (between N and M) in NoMa. Rumor has it that another hotel will be going up on that spot.”

More than a rumor! Washington Business Journal reported that a citizenM hotel is coming. Updates as construction progresses.

“Dear PoPville,

The last several nights- there are two mysterious trucks with what looks like giant vacuums on them next to the train tracks above 2nd and K St NE. They seem to start late evening and run non-stop until about midnight and are so loud! I’m a block away and Indoors, a decibel app messures 45dB and if I open the window of my apartment it reads ~80dB. Loud enough to be super annoying at night. Wondering if anyone in the community has insight as to what this machinery is and/or what the project is?”

1001 North Capitol Street, NE at K Street

I’m only a week late but better late than never (thanks to all who messaged!) Mark Lee broke the news on his Facebook:

“DC ABC Board approves licensing for gay nightclub Town to re-open at new location in a former church building at the corner of North Capitol and K Streets, rejecting ANC and protest group objections. Board grants extended operating hours (5AM Fri-Sat, 4AM Sun-Thurs) but limits use of outdoor space until 2AM.”

Town Danceboutique closed after 10 years in Shaw in 2018. Updates as 2.0 gets closer to opening.

Thanks to Christy for sending:

“I saw this last Thursday on my walk to work over on L Street NE near 4th Street. I’m not quite sure what the story is here, but the wheels were still there so I’m not sure if this post counts. The car was removed from the street by the time I walked home that evening.”

Ed. Note: Definitely counts as a helluva way to wake up. Post carbque maybe?
