“In the spirit of Twosday, 2/22/22, the NoMa Parks Foundation (NPF) is excited to kickoff Round Two of the community voting process for a permanent name for “Swampoodle II”, NoMa’s newest park.

Since fall 2020 when the NPF acquired the vacant lot at 3rd & L Streets NE, this park project has been referred to as “Swampoodle II,” given its twin-like size and location directly across L Street NE from Swampoodle Park, which the NPF delivered to the community in 2018.

Round One of the community naming process yielded more than 200 nominations, with strong consensus emerging around the following three potential, permanent names for “Swampoodle II”: (more…)

Help Name “Swampoodle Park II”

“The NoMa Parks Foundation (NPF), an affiliate of the NoMa Business Improvement District (BID), is seeking community input to help officially name NoMa’s newest park, which has been going by the working name “Swampoodle II.”

Located at the northwest corner of 3rd and L Streets NE, the 5,800 square foot parcel of land was purchased in September 2020 by NPF with funds from the grant provided by the DC Government in 2014 to address the absence of parks and green spaces in the NoMa neighborhood. (more…)

Major Police Presence and Road Closures in NoMa after reports of shots fired

Update 5:01pm: “At approximately 2:42 pm, MPD responded to New York Avenue and Florida Avenue NE in reference to a shooting. A 13 year-old juvenile male and 14 year-old juvenile male have been arrested and three firearms have been recovered. This is an active investigation.

MPD announces an additional arrest of a 15 year-old juvenile male has been made in this offense.”

Update 4:27pm: “MPD reports First Street NE between New York Avenue and L Street NE will remain closed until further notice. All other related street closures are now open to traffic.”

“Carr Properties, a leading owner, operator, developer, and acquiror of high-quality commercial properties in the Washington, D.C., Boston and Austin markets, announced today four new leases at its Signal House development in the Union Market District of Washington, D.C. The leases, which total approximately 135,000 square feet and include three office customers, TikTok, NeighborWorks and Industrious, and one retail customer, STARR Restaurant Group, bring the project to nearly 60% leased.

TikTok will occupy the second and third floors, as well as a portion of the ground floor of the building. NeighborWorks will occupy the fifth and sixth floors. Industrious will operate their flexible office concept on the seventh floor.

STARR Restaurant Group (STARR) will occupy the entire south bay, ground floor retail space, which opens to a spacious patio alongside Morse Street. STARR anticipates opening in the first quarter of 2023. STARR is revered and highly rewarded for its visionary and creative multi-concept restaurants, located in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York, Florida, and Paris.
