Elevation building in the 100 block of Florida Ave, NE
From a press release:
“MRP Residential, a residential development and investment management firm, today announced Union Social, the latest dining experience from local restaurateur Reese Gardner, is coming to Elevation at Washington Gateway. Union Social is slated to open this fall.
Gardner, who operates Copperwood Tavern, Irish Public House, The Mighty Pint and Wilson Tavern through his Wooden Nickel Bar Company, will bring his farm-to-table approach to the NoMa neighborhood via Union Social. Union Social is a DC Metro inspired casual, fine dining restaurant featuring a scratch kitchen and craft bar.
Architecturally designed to replicate a train station or bus terminal by Maggie O’Neill, who previously collaborated with Gardner on Irish Public House and Copperwood Tavern, Union Social’s 5,600-square-foot space will feature marble and steel elements, subway tile and other accents.
Elevation at Washington Gateway includes 400 units, ground-level retail, and a 600-space parking garage. As part of the residential complex, MRP Residential is constructing a European-inspired central plaza with a dramatic water feature and a pedestrian stair connection to New York Avenue, NE. The 14-story apartment building, located adjacent to the NoMa/Gallaudet U Metro Station, will open its doors this summer.”

“Dear PoPville,
Looking for some help to see if any witnesses were around at 4:30am at Florida and P st NE, the morning of March 29th. My brother was struck on his bike in the crosswalk of P st by a red light running driver and was hurt pretty bad. He has already had surgery to put a rod in his leg and may have a broken wrist too. We are looking into getting some camera footage from the XM building. Apparently the driver was not ticketed and they aren’t even calling it an accident just an incident. My brother was heading home from his bartending job and is now in a pretty bad spot with no health insurance, and he can’t work to support himself. Not really wanting to start the standard cars vs bikes flame war just trying to see if anyone was around at that time – its a long shot I know, but figured I would try.”

“Anyone know why Yo Sushi in Union Station is closed? Sign says closed for the weekend …”
They are closed permanently. I put in a call to Union Station and they say they are closed for good. Yo! Sushi opened up in Union Station over the summer of 2012. They were also supposed to open a second location at 7th and H St, NW in Chinatown but that deal fell through a while ago. I guess conveyor belt sushi just isn’t our thing.
