At its regular monthly meeting on June 26, Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1D/Mount Pleasant voted unanimously to support a homeowner who does not want to rip out newly-installed front windows to comply with historic preservation requirements.

The owner of 1627 Monroe Street NW asked the ANC for support after the staff of DC’s historic preservation authorities recentlyrecommended against giving the homeowner retroactive approval for his windows. The matter is now on the agenda of the next meeting of DC’s Historic Preservation Review Board(HPRB), scheduled for today (June 28). The HPRB has jurisdiction over this matter because the house is in the Mount Pleasant Historic District.

The problem is that the new window is twice as wide as the window that was there before (see photo above). In other respects, it is quite similar. (more…)

Mount Pleasant Street, NW not far from the Raven

“Dear PoPville,

Construction happening on this building, no safety net or covered walkway below and this guy in the open front window doesn’t appear to have any safety gear on either. Some tenants exited the front door at one point and the guys below just shouted up to the guy in the window to stop for a second until they passed.”

“Hello all,

Anyway anyone has come this ring or this bracelet:

– on 16th St between Blagden and Columbia Rd NW
– on Columbia Rd between 16th and 18th, or
– on 18th between Columbia and L St NW?

The ring was given to my by my aunt and godmother three weeks before she died last April. It was her 21st wedding anniversary ring from her husband.
The bracelet was the first gift I ever received from my spouse.

Both have EXTREME sentimental value. I am hoping for some good Samaritans out there… I’ve also filed a police report in case someone turns it in there.

Thank you,
Megan”
