For those who were speculating in the comments of the original GDoN post, this gut renovated detached home with no parking finished out at just over one and a half million dollars.

One year ago, LeDroit Park had a 5200 square foot detached home with two carriage houses (and parking for six cars) sell for net $2,335,000. The next highest sale ever for a residential property in the neighborhood was at $1,675,000. in July 2016…again a very large detached property, large lot, all brick, four fireplaces, parking. “Dear PoPville,

I wanted to tell you about a design/build project occurring at Common Good City Farm in the LeDroit Park neighborhood. This is a collaboration with The Catholic University of America,
Washington Architectural Foundation, and Common Good City Farm. DCPS high school students are working in a studio with CUA architecture students to develop a “high-design” storage structure. There’s a distinct need in the city to store the produce grown at our urban farms, and this is our pilot year to have students design and build a structure for that use. It’s a great program, and Councilmember David Grosso is a strong supporter. Please find attached some information on the project.”

If you’d like to support the project you can do so here:

“Thank you for your interest in the URBAN BUILD COLLECTIVE, a partnership between The Catholic University of America, Washington Architectural Foundation, and Common Good City Farm, are pioneers solving a common problem in the District. Ranked No. 1 for having the most community gardens in 2015, many Washington, D.C. organizations are forced to throw away a lot of their produce every year due to lack of having proper storage on site. Our design, PRESERVE+, is a sustainably designed, pre-fabricated modular storage facility serving three distinct functionalities: COLD STORAGE, DRY STORAGE, AND TOOL STORAGE. PRESERVE+ will be constructed by students at the Common Good City Farm in The Park at LeDroit in NW DC. (more…)

Around 10:45am @PoPville started getting a number of messages about a large police response in LeDroit Park/Shaw:

“Helicopter circling over 5th/T st area. Tons of sirens. Anyone have info?”

“something is definitely going on. Streets are blocked at 4th & 5th st!!”

“Anymore news on what’s happening in Shaw? Just saw secret service rushing past my house”

“buddy of mine lives right there. Said the cops were chasing someone in a car. Shots were fired. not sure of the exact location of the shots fired. Sounds like there was a foot chase at some point too.”

“streets are blocked at 6th at T and @DCPoliceDept says investigation is at 6th/ T.”

Updates when official word comes from MPD.

Update: “MPD responded to a shots fired call. Chief and PIO briefing the media at 6th & T.”

Full report from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the Unit block of W Street, Northwest, on Wednesday, January 18, 2017.

At approximately 9:46 am, an off-duty MPD officer contacted police saying he had been shot at multiple times at 3rd and U Streets, Northeast. He gave a description of the suspect vehicle, and after a search, officers were able to locate the vehicle operating in the area of the Unit block of W Street, Northwest. As MPD officers approached the vehicle on foot, one of the officers discharged his service weapon. No one was hit, and no injuries were sustained. The suspect fled in the vehicle and was later apprehended in the 1900 block of 5th Street, Northwest. A handgun was recovered from the flight path of the vehicle.

Arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Possession with Intent to Distribute, Fleeing and Eluding and Leaving after Colliding was 29-year-old Edward Darnell Bolling, Jr. of Sacramento, California.

“Dear PoPville,

The LeDroit Park neighbors whose Mini Cooper used to have a “NOTRUMP” license plate, have updated it (see above).

They are the same people who had the “Election 2016 WTF” sign and the “H: Because sane people live here” sign on their porch.

I don’t know them, but they seem awesome.”

From a press release:

“As America (sadly) prepares to say farewell to President Obama later this month, The Royal in LeDroit Park is sending him off in style, with a special “Royal Knights” Aloha Luau next Monday, January 9 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Paying homage to the departing President’s home state, the monthly industry night series brings the Hawaiian tropics to DC for just one winter night, featuring Tiki tipples from guest bartenders Lukas B. 2nd and Florida Ave, NW

From a press release:

“Co-owners Scott Jacobs, Melvin Hines and the Southeast Restaurant Group (SERG) are fired up and ready to announce January 4th as opening of the all new DCity Smokehouse location.

Located at 203 Florida Ave NW, the popular eatery will once again offer the best in barbecue, but at in even greater capacity than before. While the last location (8 Florida Ave NW, which closed in December 2015) was mostly a carry-out spot with just a few counter seats, the new restaurant boasts a full bar and seating for 35 inside. Better yet, the seating will more than double when spring comes as the patio opens with seating for 45.

What to expect?

Restaurant-goers will be happy to find the same menu items that first made DCity Smokehouse such a hit when it originally opened in 2013. The menu will include staple sandwiches such as the Meaty Palmer (turkey, pork belly, avocado, tomato, chipotle aioli at $10), the Brisket Champ (sliced smoked brisket, pickles, crispy onions, house bbq sauce at $10), the DCity Halfsmoke (half smoke sausage, brisket chill, nacho cheese, yellow mustard) and more, see the full menu below. The menu will also see the return of platters but this time, around instead of the option of just one side, platters now come with two or more sides. Some standouts include the Showstopper (rib tips, brisket, smoked wings, and three sides at $30), and the Ribs and Wings Combo (spare ribs, pit smoked wings and two sides at $15). Meat will be smoked daily in two J & R smokers, one using hickory and cherry wood to smoke the pork and poultry and the other will handle the ribs, brisket and pork with the help of mild white and red oak woods.

What’s new?

While DCity will mostly focus on it’s tried and true staples, the menu will also see a couple additions like the Mac and Jack Cheese ($3/$6). As one of the biggest selling points, DCity is going above and beyond the call of a standard smokehouse with in-house baking. The bread, a cross between a milk bun and a yeast roll, will serve as the perfect complement to the meats.

Continues with full menu after the jump. (more…)

We are days away from the new location of DCity Smokehouse and it is looking sweet!

When they do open we’ll be sure to have a taste off with them and their former pit master now at the newly opened Federalist Pig in Adams Morgan. Stay tuned for an exact DCity opening date and the results of the taste off.
