“Dear PoPville,
I have a question regarding leaf removal from sidewalks. I live on a residential street in Kalorama, some of the houses are single family-owned, some have been subdivided into condos/apartments. This November I’ll be completing my first year on this street and I’ve noticed there are about three houses in a row that never clear the sidewalks of leaves or snow. I thought I heard once it’s the property owners who are responsible for cleaning the sidewalks but I wanted to make sure. Is this something I can go to 311 about or am I just stuck with the mess? Please note, it’s not the unsightliness of trampled leaves or the muddy snow (although it does look bad) that’s getting my goat, it’s the fact that I also have neighbors who don’t clean up after their dog’s waste resulting in hidden landmines.
I know at least one of these houses has been converted to condos/apartments but there’s nothing indicating who owns/manages the property. If this is something I can go to 311 about, will they be able to figure out who to contact or will they simply leave a note on the front door (a note that will most likely go ignored and end up on the sidewalk)?”

“Dear PoPville,
Why does the Dorchester house on 16th is keeping the “construction no parking” signs up on Kalorama even though construction’s over? It’s really inconvenient. There are 3 of these (photo above) spaced out to block off ~10 spots.”

So much for the Jambalaya Room, looks like the former Pines of Florence space is set to become a new Japanese restaurant called Ogawa. Also looks like a major renovation is ongoing – so we’ll update with more info when they get closer to opening.

Perhaps DC’s finest horse in action features – General Philip Sheridan at the reins:
“a career United States Army officer and a Union general in the American Civil War. His career was noted for his rapid rise to major general and his close association with Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, who transferred Sheridan from command of an infantry division in the Western Theater to lead the Cavalry Corps of the Army of the Potomac in the East. In 1864, he defeated Confederate forces in the Shenandoah Valley and his destruction of the economic infrastructure of the Valley, called “The Burning” by residents, was one of the first uses of scorched earth tactics in the war. In 1865, his cavalry pursued Gen. Robert E. Lee and was instrumental in forcing his surrender at Appomattox.
Sheridan fought in later years in the Indian Wars of the Great Plains. Both as a soldier and private citizen, he was instrumental in the development and protection of Yellowstone National Park. In 1883 Sheridan was appointed general-in-chief of the U.S. Army, and in 1888 he was promoted to the rank of General of the Army during the term of President Grover Cleveland.”

Lots of awesomeness on this one from Kalorama:

From an email:
“This month’s version of Vintage Game Night at the President Woodrow Wilson House will feature Beltway Brewing Company of Virginia. The Sterling, VA brewery serves as a host for partner and contract brewing, professionally producing high quality craft beer for those who cannot build or expand their own breweries. Vintage Game Night will feature their house brand IPA and Amber Ale at the bar.
Vintage Game Night is a monthly happy hour at the President Woodrow Wilson House, featuring games from the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Every first Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:00pm, the Dupont area museum partners with a local craft brewery for a vintage gaming happy hour. Kick back with a local brew where Wilson would have lounged, play games the Wilson family would have played and enjoy a unique game night experience unlike anything else in DC.
Ticket price includes entrance to the museum, 2 drink vouchers, gaming munchies, and all-you-can-play vintage board games. (Wine and soda also available. Additional drinks may be purchased.)
