“This first-ever event is being hosted by three neighborhood running clubs — H Street Runners, Argonaut Running Club, and Big Board Runners. There is no cost to attend. Here’s all the details:

Tuesday Night, December 20th, marks the first-ever H STREET UGLY HOLIDAY SWEATER RUN & HOLIDAY BASH! Three great neighborhood running clubs — H Street Runners, Argonaut Running Club (“Argo Run Club”), and Big Board Runners — are coming together to make this inaugural H Street event possible. So please join us in your most tacky, festive sweaters or attire at 7:00 pm at Driftwood Kitchen (4th & H Street NE) for a holiday fun run up and down H Street (a distance of less than 2 miles). Afterwards we’ll gather at Driftwood Kitchen in the beautiful upstairs bar for an extended happy hour with plenty of great food and drink specials.

And because this is the season of love and giving, please consider bringing a race medal or two as a donation to Medals 4 Angels, a nonprofit founded by Boston Marathoners, which gives race medals to children struggling with serious illness or disease.

Medals from all races (any distance) will be accepted and will be presented to very deserving kids who will really love them. So consider donating a race race medal (or as many of you can!) to help support and encourage some kids who really need it. We’ll have a medal collection at the start of the run, and more information will about the Medals 4 Angels program will be available at our epic post-race bash!

The Wydown’s 2nd Location now open on H Street, NE

Good coffee news for H Street on this dreary Sunday – The Wydown opened up yesterday at the new Apollo building. The owners tell me:

“the coffee and bakery is open now; but the bar component of the cafe will open next week.”

And don’t forget “guests of the cafe can enjoy their coffee, cocktail or wine in the cafe or anywhere in the lobby of the building.”

Peruvian Out, Swiss in at 1324 H Street, NE

Last week we learned that Ocopa had closed for renovations. As predicted it was simply another “closed for renovations” claim. Frozen Tropics has learned:

“I reached out to one of the owners, and he confirmed that Ocopa has closed. He also passed along information about the new restaurant that will take over the space. It’s called Stable, and it’s a Swiss-American concept from chefs David Fritsche and Silvan Kramer.

The projected opening of Stable D.C. is March 2017.”

Lots of Metrobus Service Changes Starting December 18

“Schedule adjustments, trip eliminations and changes to bus stops will be made on select Metrobus routes in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia beginning Sunday, December 18, 2016. In addition, some routes will be modified or will operate later on Friday and Saturday nights to provide customer connections due to the earlier closing time of the Metrorail system.

CHANGED ROUTES

DC: 62, 63, 80, 82, 83, 90, 92, 94, D2, E2, H6, L1, L2, N2, N4, P6, U7, V1, W8, X1, X2, X9”

Including:

“Eastbound and westbound bus stops will be added on the H Street (Hopscotch) Bridge at the bus/taxi entrance to Union Station.”

City Dogs opens H Street Location, Open House this Sunday

Hill Prince coming to H Street NE this January “All drinks on the menu will be $10 or less”

“Cousins and fourth generation Washingtonians Nick and David Wiseman will open Hill Prince, a neighborhood bar, early this winter in the Atlas District, located at 1337 H Street NE, between the iconic Atlas Theatre and Rock and Roll Hotel.

Hill Prince will feature a list of classic cocktails, beers and wines, plus a selection of small bites. All drinks on the menu will be $10 or less. Longtime DGS barman Tony Lawson, also a lifelong Washingtonian, will helm the bar as General Manager and Beverage Director. The focus will be on quality ingredients and classic preparations, riding the wave of highly talented beer, wine and spirit producers emerging across the country.

The bar is built in a historic row house with an intimate front bar focused on cocktails, an outdoor central courtyard and a large back bar in a restored carriage house. The building was stripped to its bones – hundred-year-old heart pine floors and brick walls. Brass finishes and leather furniture will accent these original materials.

The front bar is opening in January 2017, while the courtyard and back bar will open later in the Spring. (more…)
