“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to alert you, and the blog readers at large, that the Beer and Welding Sandwich Shop at the back of the Oasis grocery store in Dupont looks to be going full-time. Another woman had been running the deli for a long time, but it looks like she’s given up control of the operation. If you remember, they had been serving buns in the evenings there previously. I went in last week and, while there weren’t any official menu signs up yet, the guy I talked to said they were open to the public. The bread comes from the Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe in Arlington, and he said they’ll be serving slow-cooked meats and veggies in addition to regular sandwiches. No chance of getting an egg salad sandwich there for $3.95 anymore, but they make a pretty good tuna salad.”

From an email:

“The second Delicatessen After Dark — Highway to the Danger Zone: Cocktails of the 80’s— will take place on Thursday, April 24th from 8pm to late at the DGS Bar. Come imbibe on $10 specialty cocktails with our extraordinary Bar Man Brian Zipin.

Many believe the 1980’s was the dark ages for drinking. Some cocktails were great, some were not so great; we are picking our favorites and giving them the respect they deserve. We will change the way you think about a Midori Sour, Fuzzy Navel or Cosmopolitan (full menu below).

Our resident Pit Master Brian Robinson, aka DJ Pork and Beans, will spin some classic 80’s tunes. To celebrate, come donned in 80’s era clothes. There will be an award given for the best 80’s outfit. The grand prize is a collection of classic 80’s movies.

Delicatessen After Dark is a celebration of the new delicatessen drinking culture inspired by our grandparent’s long nights in Lower East side taverns, winter getaways to Florida and jazzy escapades to the Catskills. Delicatessen After Dark will take place on the last Thursday of every month and focus on a new style, era or spirit.

No reservations required.”

on April 1st we noted coming soon signage was posted for Willie T’s Lobster Shack located in the former Marvelous Market sace right next door to Kramerbooks. They’ll be opening next week according to an artist who worked on the space – Arielle Jessop:

“I spent a week down in DC completing the buildout for Willie T’s Lobster Shack that will be opening next week. I did all of the drawings and interior design work for the new restaurant located in the chic neighborhood of Dupont Circle. I did everything by hand; the signs, logo replication, paintings on the wall, and writing on the walls with lobster trivia. I especially love the way the light comes through the wood hanging overhead, as it mimics the feeling of being underneath a boardwalk at the beach. It was really cool to see my vision come to life. I loved doing this project and look forward to working more in restaurant design.”
