“All Good Presents is teaming up with the Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival for an evening of local bluegrass and to celebrate the announcement of the official Festival Music Line Up. The 6th Annual Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival will be happening Saturday, April 25th, 2015 and we want to celebrate our line up announcement with you!

The Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival is DC’s premiere outdoor music experience. This signature music festival highlights DC’s local bluegrass, folk and Americana traditions and engages the community with the revitalization of Kingman Island and the Anacostia River. Located on the Anacostia River near the RFK Stadium and managed by Living Classrooms Foundation, Kingman Island is a recreational area for people of all ages to learn about the natural environment in Washington, DC.

“Rose’s House Party will be happening every Saturday night in February at 10:00pm at Compass Rose, “playing all the music you didn’t know you wanted to hear”…. In addition to tapping a keg of craft beer and pouring from a satellite bar (Solo cups and Sharpie included) we are bringing in a different D.C. DJ every Saturday this month . The line up is amazing! We are not becoming some crazy K street club though, no. We are trying to create a chill space where people can hang out with friends and enjoy some great music, food (late night khachapuri) and drinks.

The month of music is being kicked off by a good friend of Compass Rose, DJ Dirty Hands this Friday night (2/6). DJ Dirty Hands is a legend in DC and has been kind enough to help us arrange this event. After the kick off tomorrow he is quickly followed by his friend, DJ Stylus Chris on Saturday night. Then we have a different DJ each Saturday for the rest of the month. Including, DJ Trayze who just won the DC qualifier in the Red Bull Thre3Style competition. He will be representing DC in their national championship later this month.

On January 24th & 25th 2015, Grammy nominated Progressive Hip-Hop artist, Christylez Bacon and 2013-2014 Strathmore Artist in Residence and Hindustani Classical violinist, Nistha Raj will kick off Washington Sound Museum’s 2015 season, exploring the spaces between Indian Classical music, Hip-Hop, and Go-Go for Washington Sound Museum’s 22nd installment. In addition to creating a cross-cultural music mash-up, the event offers a curated tea reception and mini-lessons on the styles of Indian classical dance and Go-Go’s “Beat Ya Feet” dance, giving the audience a chance to get into the action. This combination of music, art and culture will culminate in a live performance that has been four years in the making.

“Trinity Hosts NSO Concert in Notre Dame Chapel This Sunday

Have you ever wondered what the inside of Trinity Washington University’s Notre Dame Chapel looks like? It’s very beautiful – one of the hidden gems of Washington – and you have a chance to check it out this Sunday, January 11, 2015, when Trinity hosts a brass concert featuring ensembles from the National Symphony Orchestra and the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. The free concert begins at 2:00 pm, and the doors open at 1:30 pm, giving you a chance to see the beautiful stained glass windows, mosaic and Guastavino tiles

The concert is part of the National Symphony Orchestra’s “2015 NSO In Your Neighborhood”, a week-long series of concerts in a variety of venues from Brookland to NoMa. NSO musicians David Murray, trombone; Matthew Guilford, bass trombone; and Stephen Dumaine, tuba; will perform a chamber concert with guest trombonist Peter Ellefson. The concert will include a collaboration with a brass group from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts.

This concert is free and open to the public and families are welcome. No tickets or reservations are needed.

Trinity is located at 125 Michigan Avenue, NE. Trinity offers free parking on campus and a free shuttle to and from the Brookland Metro stop on the Red line. There is a Metro bus stop in front of the campus, near Notre Dame Chapel, that is served by several Metro bus routes. There is also free street parking along Michigan Avenue right in front of Trinity’s campus and Notre Dame Chapel.”

“The National Symphony Orchestra will blanket the neighborhoods of Brookland and NoMa home January 5–January 12, building deeper connections to its community by giving more than 50 free events and performances. From concerts at Echostage and Catholic University of America’s Hartke Theatre to in-school visits, concerts for toddlers, and performances at homeless shelters, NSO members will make music in ensembles large and small. The Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Echostage, McKinley Technology Education Campus, Dance Place, Union Market’s Dock 5, NPR: these are but a few of the distinctive and colorful locales to be visited, culminating in the concert at Hartke Theatre.

Four events anchor the array of performances, including three by the full orchestra. For these key events free reservations are required, but 15 minutes before performances, unclaimed reservations will be opened up to those waiting in line. NSO In Your Neighborhood Event Reservations.

January 7: Historic Union Market is not only home to more than 30 of the top artisanal food producers in the region, above the marketplace it boasts the distinctive event space Dock 5. There Glenn Donnellan (creator of “The Electric Slugger”—an electric violin made from a Louisville Slugger baseball bat) and NSO colleagues will bring their mix of rock ‘n’ roll, blues/jazz, fiddling, and maybe even classical, to this spacious urban venue.
