In addition to an expansive reinstallation of the collection, NMWA will present an inaugural exhibition, The Sky’s the Limit, featuring powerful monumental sculpture and immersive installations by a dozen contemporary women artists, in an innovative presentation not possible prior to the renovation. “The National Gallery of Art has announced the spring 2023 season for its popular National Gallery Nights after-hours p­rogram. Each event takes place from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of March, April, and May in the East Building.

Popular activities that define National Gallery Nights–music, live performances, artmaking, and pop-up talks–are centered around a specific theme for each evening. Light fare, gelato, and beverages, including beer, wine, and specialty cocktails, are available for purchase throughout the East Building and in the Terrace Café and Espresso & Gelato Bar. As with all National Gallery programs, the event is free.

“Austrian artist Katharina Cibulka was commissioned to create a monumental site-specific public artwork for DC — her first in the US and her largest to date. Reflecting local submissions, the artist created a work that addressed the continual generational nature of struggle for feminist and human rights: AS LONG AS GENERATIONS CHANGE BUT OUR STRUGGLES STAY THE SAME, I WILL BE A FEMINIST. A pointedly feminist statement in the center of the nation’s capital is timely on many levels — from the repeal of Roe in the US to the largely female-led uprising in Iran. (more…)
