Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Could be Coming to Rhode Island Ave, NE?!?!!

Well this could be huge – Washington Business Journal reports:

“Austin, Texas-based Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is close to a deal to bring its brand of movie theater and full-service restaurant to a new development in the Edgewood neighborhood of Northeast D.C.”

Considering Alamo Drafthouse DC retweeted the story – I’d take that as a very good sign. Alamo’s website says:

“Cold beer, hot movies, and delicious snacks and meals; The Alamo Drafthouse is dinner, drinks, movies and events, all under one roof. Our attention to detail in film presentation and programming has made us a second home to movie fans all over the planet and earned accolades from the likes of Entertainment Weekly (#1 theater in America), Wired.com (Coolest Movie Theater in the World) and Fandango.com (One of the Best Theaters in the Country).”

“Natalie Portman Joins the Washington Jewish Film Festival for Closing Night”

“Director and Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman will attend the closing night of the 2016 Washington Jewish Film Festival for the Mid-Atlantic Premiere of her directorial debut, A Tale of Love and Darkness. The film is an adaptation of Amos Oz’s international bestselling memoir.

Note that the venue for the closing night screening and reception has changed. The events will now take place at the AFI Silver Theatre. More information is available here.

Hardcore Fans Start Lining Up for the new Star Wars film Showing on Thursday

A reader reported just around 12:15pm:

“Just thought you might want to know, looks like people are already camping out in front of the Uptown.”

I couldn’t believe it but I remember when the Star Wars film came out in 1999 and I was living a few blocks away from the Uptown at that time and one night I came stumbling walking home around 3am and there was this massive line outside my building. The building was a full two blocks away from the Theatre mind you and I was like “what the shit is this?”. And then because I was young and a total jerk I charged somebody waiting in line $20 to use my bathroom. I’ve been wracked with guilt over that ever since. I feel better now, thank you. Anyway I digress.

And so the circle of Star Wars films continues:

But I gotta respect David Casterline from Fairfax, VA – he brought a barcalounger and he got it for free off craigslist! Well done – and you picked the right weather for it!
