Here’s a helluva liquor license application for metrobar: “A new class C Tavern inspired by spotlighting the District’s culture in the arts, featuring exhibits, music, movies and community fundraisers. Seating Capacity of 399, Total Occupancy Load of 499 and a Summer Garden with 350 Seats. The License will include an Entertainment Endorsement on both the inside and outside of the premises.”

“Located conveniently off the Rhode Island Ave NE Metro station and alongside the Metropolitan Branch Trail, metrobar is an 11,000 sq ft, mixed-use outdoor space, home to the District’s first refurbished 5000-series Metro train car turned bar. Margaret shared with us the other day: “RIP Potomac Yard Movie Theater” and it got me thinking about movies. So harking back to our ‘Friday* Question of the Day’ series from the before times – I’m just curious – what was the last movie you saw in an actual theater? The last one I saw was 1917 at the Uptown (RIP).
*I realize it’s Wednesday but we can all admit that everyday is the same day these days.

“Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) launched the application for the $29.5 million Entertainment Bridge Fund, which will provide grants ranging between $10,000-$250,000 for entertainment venues grappling with the COVID-19 public health emergency. The Entertainment Bridge Fund is part of The Bridge Fund, a $100 million initiative aimed at providing financial relief to the hotel, restaurant, retail, and entertainment sectors. (more…)

Located at 100 V Street SW, the Capitol Riverfront Drive-in will transform the Buzzard Point parking lot into an outdoor cinema with six showings of hit movies. Beginning today, Washingtonians can visit riverfrontdrivein.eventbrite.com to register for select date(s) – space is limited to 75 cars per movie, so guests are encouraged to register early.
“We recognize the challenges the District has faced over the last few months, and we wanted to create an experience where residents and visitors alike could gather for an entertaining activity while still maintaining a safe distance,” said Michael Stevens Capitol Riverfront BID president. “The Drive-in is one small way we’re supporting the communities we serve.”
The family-friendly contact-free experience will launch with Selma, a film honoring the legacy of the late Congressman John Lewis and the Voting Rights marches, a historic movement that still resonates with the Black Lives Matter movement today. (more…)
