I wanted to share some information on something I recently learned about bills at Children’s National. We unfortunately had an 18 hour hospital stay with our son earlier this year and got a very hefty $2100 bill even with our “good” insurance. This seemed outrageous so I started poking around and followed the internet advice to request an itemized bill which revealed a couple errors. I recently read that 80% of hospital bills contain errors!

“DC Health would like to thank residents for using the DC COVID Alert Notice (DC CAN) COVID-19 exposure notification system to help protect yourself and our community. Exposure notifications helped to prevent thousands of cases of COVID-19 during the pandemic and allowed people to take action to prevent its spread. In DC alone, over 37,000 people used DC CAN to anonymously alert others of possible exposure to COVID-19, generating more than a million exposure notifications.

(TL;DR: Writing about a $500 insurance charge associated with a COVID test from Sameday Health in Georgetown – wondering if anyone else is having a similar experience.)
My previous insurance is attempting to charge me $500 for COVID test lab work from a test I took in July 2021, billed Feb 20, 2023 – nearly two years after the fact in addition to being covered under the CARES Act at the time. The insurance company claims I filed too late, but I never received any kind of documentation to submit – only an email from Sameday Health essentially saying “what you’ll get from your insurance isn’t a bill!” (more…)

My partner (a native Spanish speaker) is currently looking for a psychologist in the DMV. I know she can’t be the only one looking for a psychologist conversant in her native language. Does anyone have recommendations for a Spanish-speaking psychologist, preferably in the District? Bonus points if they take insurance! Thank you.”
Ed. Note: On February 28th DC Health suspended “COVID-19 Test Yourself DC self-service kiosk program as well as rapid test distribution at libraries and senior centers”.

“Today, DC Health announced that the last day of operations for the COVID Centers will be Friday, March 31. The decision to close the COVID Centers comes after the District has experienced a significant drop in COVID-19 cases, high vaccination uptake, and an increase in the availability of vaccines and testing kits for at-home use. Similar actions are being taken at the federal level and by other jurisdictions around the nation. The COVID Centers were established in January 2022 to provide residents with free and easy access to COVID-19 vaccines, testing, and masks at the height of the pandemic.
