Nothing, and I mean nothing, is more frustrating than paying more than you should for something. Anyone who has ever been to an airport knows the feeling well. Rising costs have impacted all of us. As owner and founder of Andy’s Pizza, I am proud that our city is taking the right steps by increasing minimum wage and launching programs where they can help facilitate food access, housing affordability, and transportation affordability (and resilience!). These steps, along with growth in education and jobs access are the only way forward.

As some of you know, Andy’s Pizza grew up next to 9:30 Club. For years I spent every waking minute on that block while our little shop grew big. That’s how I found out about The RESALE Act, a bill that aims to protect all of us from getting gouged by sketchy scalpers by capping the amount a concert or theatre ticket can be resold for. This is another way we can fight back for D.C. residents.

How big of a problem is it? Well, the numbers are staggering. (more…)

Acting Librarian of Congress Robert R. Newlen today named 25 recordings as audio treasures worthy of preservation for all time based on their cultural, historical or aesthetic importance in the nation’s recorded sound heritage.

“Dear PoPville,

The classic Easterns jingle has been part of DMV culture for decades, and we recently remixed it with DC Go-Go legends Junkyard Band to celebrate both the legacy of the jingle and 50 years of Go-Go in DC. To mark the moment, we’re hosting a free community Go-Go concert on April 12.

We’re celebrating 50 years of Go-Go and DMV culture by remaking the classic Easterns jingle with Junkyard Band. We’re also collaborating with Capital City Mambo Sauce to debut a commemorative mambo sauce bottle for the event. The celebration will be hosted by DJ Flexx at our Easterns Automotive Group location in Laurel.

It will be a free, family friendly community event with food, entertainment, and more.”

From DC’s Office of the Attorney General (OAG):

“Following DOJ Settlement, Bipartisan 27-AG Coalition Will Keep Fighting to Restore Fair Competition to Live Music Marketplace

Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb released the following statement regarding the ongoing antitrust case against Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, for illegally monopolizing the live entertainment industry and concert ticketing services:

“DC’s live entertainment scene is vital to our local economy and culture, and the recently announced settlement is simply not adequate,” said Attorney General Schwalb. “Live Nation has raked in billions from an illegal monopoly that stifles artists, harms venues, and makes it harder for fans to see the performers they love. We will continue fighting to hold Live Nation accountable and restore competition to the live entertainment industry.”
