From Reproaction:

“This morning, President Trump became the first sitting president to address the ultra-conservative Values Voter Summit in DC.

But as attendees arrived, women from the abortion rights group Reproaction welcomed guests with a large banner that read: “Abortion: not just for your mistress” – a reference to Rep. Tim Murphy, who last week announced he will resign after details came to light of an affair in which the pro-life congressman urged his mistress to get an abortion.

In addition to the banner, Reproaction has a digital billboard with a similar message that will be driving by during the entire 3-day Summit.”

2649 Connecticut Ave, NW

Washington Business Journal’s Michael Neibauer tweeted the news yesterday:

“Building permit issued for buildout of a new 2,593sf Starbucks in what appears to be the old Cafe Paradiso space, 2649 Connecticut Ave. NW.”

Cafe Pardiso closed after 27 years back in September 2016. In that time I’ve gotten tons of messages from folks wondering who was going in. I gotta say I’m amazed Woodley Park lasted this long without a Starbucks (though of course there is one across the street from the zoo.) On a personal note, I hope this alleviates the line at Dunkin Donuts. Yes that’s right, I like Dunkin Donuts coffee, there I said it. I also like their blueberry donuts. What’s up?!

Magic Marilyn by @olaf_berzerker #dc #popville

Fear not the iconic Marylin Monroe is not going anywhere but a post of her on PoPville’s Instagram led to an interesting revelation from Ryan Wegman:

“What should be the mural on the opposite wall of Connecticut Ave. to match? Jackie O. was suggested (her and JFK frequented the Omni when it was THE place to dance in the city — the Blue Room, specifically — until someone made the Marilyn/Jackie connection. We’re now thinking Grover Cleveland, General Patton, and Martin Van Buren, all former residents of Woodley Park, but I’m still into keeping it female. We’d love everyone’s input and/or recommendation of an artist!

The mural process is still on-going even though the date on the flyer has passed. There hasn’t been a consensus yet as to what it should be.

The mural will be closing soon for ideas — we have until September 9th.

Mural Concept Development Guide (PDF)

“The owner of Rajaji at 2603 Connecticut Ave. has donated his south-facing wall to MuralsDC and requested the development of an original mural for that location. MuralsDC is asking for neighborhood input concerning the subject matter of that mural.”
