“Dear PoPville,

There are ‘no trespassing’ signs up all over (that have never been there before) and people pressure washing the sidewalk, and the three homeless folks who live there (who always mind their own business and keep their belongings orderly) are not to be seen anywhere. Neither are there belongings. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Love this series. Would be great to see one on liquor store prices. I grew up in CA with Bevmo and selling in grocery stores, so the price of any liquor was fairly set across most stores. Here it feels like the same bottle can range in price by $10+ across stores.”

Ed. Note: You can see Best Thai here and best carryouts here.

So, I titled this post ‘2nd best liquor store‘ because the best liquor store in D.C. is a cool little spot called Calvert Woodley Fine Wines & Spirits.  It is not really little but is really the best, there is no debate. Also they have a La Cheeserie. And their staff is top notch – “We couldn’t be prouder that we have 10 employees — 1/5 of our staff — who have been with us for over 25 years.” And their prices are the best. They are the best. So it is written so it so by order of the Prince of Petworth, March 7th 2019.

OK now that we got that out of the way, where is the 2nd best liquor store in D.C.? Per the OP’s request – where are the best bargains besides Costco? What liquor stores are the best for selection? Best beer? Best wine?

The greatest Burger King (left) in D.C., nay, the nation is located on Connecticut Avenue. Ever since Chick Fil A had plans on coming, which fell through, I’ve been getting emails asking about their status. And over the last few months I’d say every two weeks or so I’m getting emails/messages they have closed. The messages were likely sparked by an August 2018 Forest Hills Connection report: “The owner of the Burger King franchise at Van Ness has told local officials that the restaurant will likely be closing within months.”

And indeed the space does still appear for lease but much to my wife’s dismay, I eat here about once a week. And they are still kicking. I don’t love it to be honest but it is cheap and fast and I can’t stand waiting on the lines at Bread Furst, I got miles to walk!! Anyway, it hits the spot and apparently hits the spot for many others as well. All that is to say, they are still open. I promise I’ll report any updates if the space does get leased by someone else. Who would your dream leasee be for this space?

If you are not familiar with this Burger King, well, you are in for a surprise: (more…)
