Roaming Rooster on a Roll! In Addition to ‘Western Market’, Also Plans to open on U Street!

Well this is unexpected awesome news following last week’s announcement of a ‘Western Market’ location, comes word of a U Street location! Eater DC reports:

“Co-founder Michael Habtemariam says Roaming Rooster has started construction inside the building at 1301 U Street NW, which TaKorean vacated in October 2018. The company hopes to have a carryout operation set up there by mid-August or September.”

Roaming Rooster opened their super popular Woodridge location near DC Brau in 2018.

“Today one of our team members explained to a customer that they must wear a face mask to enter the restaurant. It is the law. Our team member was assaulted and threatened while the customer destructed property and threw everything on the counter as well as the plexiglass screen at her. This is not what we come to work for, or what anyone should have to endure while working to provide for themselves and their families. This is painful and disgusting to say the least. We are sorry our team member was spoken to and exposed to this type of treatment and behavior. (more…)

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has signed a letter of intent with the District to move their national headquarters to Washington, DC within the future redevelopment of the Frank D. Reeves Center of Municipal Affairs at 2000 14th Street NW.

“The Reeves Center stands in an iconic and culturally significant area of the U Street corridor with deep connections to the NAACP,” said Mayor Bowser. “As we continue fighting for change and working to build a more fair and just nation, we look forward to welcoming this iconic civil rights organization to Washington, DC.”

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is America’s premier and largest civil rights organization. Through its Washington, DC bureau, the NAACP helped to advance not only integration of the United States Armed Forces in 1948 but also passage of the Civil Rights Acts of 1957, 1964, and 1968 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Back in January we learned that a:

“New Retailer’s Class “C” Restaurant with a wine bar, serving wines by the glass and the bottle, with a wine-focused cocktail list and light snacks.
