Thanks to a number of readers for sending me this info. I think we may have heard this rumor a while ago because it sounds familiar to me. The Washington Business Journal says: “Restaurant owner Andy Shallal plans to open a 6,000-square-foot eatery at D.C.’s The Flats at Union Row, just across the street from Busboys and Poets, his restaurant at 2021 14th St. NW.” Did we already know about this?

Check out this photo from Jezebel. Thanks to a reader for sending the link and for telling me about it (unfortunately I couldn’t break away from work to get a photo myself.)

I’ve been noticing lots of swastikas in the U Street area along 14th Street. This is the third week in a row I’ve spotted swastikas. Normally I’ve seen them on their own. This one about Cuba is just plain bizarre. I guess there a lot of insane people out there.

When Marvin first opened I’d say in general people loved it. Recently I’ve been starting to hear from some folks that it is too crowded and/or has lost some of its initial shine. So now that it has been open a few months has your opinion changed at all?

I never realized that there were two separate signs for Taco Bell and KFC on 14th Street. I got really excited for a second when I noticed it. You see I’m of the old school who remembers going into a Taco Bell and eating Taco Bell. Now I go in and see KFC choices and I’ve never been good at ordering, anyway, but I hesitate and usually order a chicken snacker instead of my beloved meximelts and it ruins the experience. Damn the pictures of those snackers look good. Why can’t they have more pictures of meximelts? Alas, Taco Bell and KFC are still combined, sadly, on 14th Street. Um, that’s all I have to say about that.

I’ve always wondered how this great spot located on T Street next door to St. Ex could remain closed. Unfortunately when I walked by there was nobody to ask when it was reopening. Anyone know when it will be reopening?

It is wild not to see a whole there anymore.

I love encountering shops that are in the middle of a residential block. I imagine that this sight was very common in the 1950s. But my question is: why are the shops in rowhomes on residential blocks always hair salons? I mean why not a hardware store every now and then? Have you guys seen any other shops on residential blocks besides hair salons?

Some people have been a little skeptical of the U Street Sushi joint that just opened up but I have to say the space itself looks pretty good.

I love this cart that goes between the cake love store and the love cafe across the street. It’s a beautiful sight. I’m not a big cake fan personally but I hear their goods are out of this world. Any fans here?
