In early April we took a peek in the window of Piola Pizzeria coming to 2208 14th St, NW (just north of W.) Having stopped inside, that hardly did this incredible renovation any justice. They open to the public Monday but in the meantime you can see how great the space turned out:

Piola’s website says:

Piola’s cuisine is rigorously Italian: Simple and healthy. Piola’s pizza is thin-crust and well cooked, but above all, Piola’s pizza menu is very creative: the classic Italian pizzas are flanked by many other creations, all delicious and original.

But Piola is more, much more:

Piola opens its doors to culture, hosting film premieres, book and magazine events, art exhibitions and many other social and artistic activities.

You can see their Arlington menu here.

Whether you’re grabbing some breakfast before work, meeting friends for lunch or a mid-day caffeine boost, or picking up a sweet treat on your way home from dinner, we’ve got the freshest and most delectable treats in town.

Our menu changes regularly to take advantage of the best local and seasonal ingredients, but we always have a selection of familiar favorites and exciting new flavors. Stop in and see what we’re up to!

From a press release:

In celebration of opening day, sweetgreen is inviting guests to “Pay What You Want,” with all proceeds benefiting sweetgreen in schools, a series of hands-on nutrition classes in collaboration with DC Farm to School; the program teaches students about nutrition, the importance of local sourcing, and how to take charge of their own health.

With its own street entrance on W (separate from the lobby of the YMCA), the new sweetgreen will be the largest to-date, with 60 seats inside and an additional 20 seats on the outdoor patio. The store will also conveniently offer a juice window selling sweetpress, sweetgreen’s line of freshly pressed, raw juice. Additionally, the second floor of the YMCA will have a state-of-the-art test kitchen which sweetgreen will co-brand and use for its sweetgreen in schools program.

Dear PoPville,

I have a super small 1 bedroom (apprx 450 sq ft) on U Street (between 15th and 16th) that has a decent outdoor space, enough for a garden, wood floors, washer/dryer, updated a few years back. I will be relocating and renting out my home of the last several years. I’m out of touch w/rental costs. I want to charge a reasonable rent. The gentleman that sold me the condo gave me an amazing deal because “I was young and deserved an opportunity”. I want to pass that on :)

After paying my mortgage, etc. $1450 (that includes utilities) seems fair. Would that be considered affordable and fair?
