Congrats to U Street Music Hall Ranked #10 by Rolling Stone magazine:

There are no dress codes, VIP areas or bottle service at D.C.’s underground outpost, and the seats are mostly bar stools: “U Street Music Hall is for dancing, not sitting,” reminds their official website. Come here for cool DJs like Juan MacLean and Boys Noize, plus super-high-energy parties spotlighting the buzzy local sound known as moombahton.

U Street Music Hall is located at 1115 U Street, NW:

“Opened March 17th, 2010, U Street Music Hall is a DJ-owned and operated basement dance club and live music venue. Its 500-person capacity room features one of the city’s best sound systems, a 1200 square foot cork-cushioned dance floor and two bars with a full liquor selection.”

A bit too early for a proper judging but the new construction of the “1919 14th Street” Project is looking good. Do you like the way it’s turning out?  This will become a new building from Level2 Development at 1919 14th St, NW:

A mixed-use apartment community featuring seven stories with 144 studio and one-bedroom rental apartments, 1919 14th Street will offer chic, efficient floorplans with 9′ ceilings and floor to ceiling glass, and beautifully appointed interiors. Located in the bustling U Street neighborhood of downtown Washington, DC, the apartments offer efficient living and an urban lifestyle with the hottest restaurants, bars, boutique shops and public transportation just steps away. The project’s design combines a modern glass structure with elements of a brick warehouse to complement the architecture of the U Street Historic District. Level 2 is developing 1919 14th Street in partnership with Keener Squire Properties.

Hard to believe it’s already been a year – congrats to the whole Izakaya Seki team! An awesome addition to the neighborhood. From their facebook page:

“HEEEEYYYY! We will be celebrating our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY by butchering a 100 lb yellowfin tuna for everyone at 5PM on JULY 31 — you can come watch my dad take this beast DOWN.

AND THEN YOU CAN EAT AS MUCH AS YOU WANT…(for $15/person). So I hope you’ll come celebrate with us ♥”

Via email Cizuka Seki tells me “we’ll be offering this 100 lb tuna from the 31st until the 2nd (or until we run out).”

I have the feeling they are going to run out…

Update – they started the butchering tuna early – check out a small video here.

From a press release:

“MRP Realty, developers of commercial, residential and mixed-use real estate across the Washington Metropolitan Region, has been awarded the development rights to 965 Florida Avenue, NW by the District of Columbia Deputy Mayor’s office.

MRP Residential, along with its development partner, Ellis Development Group, were selected by the deputy mayor’s office to develop the property at 965 Florida Avenue, NW, into a mixed-use development consisting of approximately 370,000 square feet, including 40,000 square feet of ground floor retail, and residential units above. The development team also partnered with Fundrise, an online platform that uses crowdfunding technology as an alternative investment source.

“We believe our bid presented the best opportunity for the surrounding community and its residents and we are excited about today’s decision” said Matt Robinson, principal of MRP Residential. “Our unique package presented a mix of affordable housing, community input, and the ability of residents to invest directly in their neighborhood. This project provides a blend that we believe will benefit all community stakeholders. We are very appreciative of the opportunity Deputy Mayor Hoskins and his team have given MRP.”

Ground floor retail of the development will include Griffith Market, designed as an indoor farmers’ market that allows small and independent grocers, operators, and retail entrepreneurs to set up inside the building and serve the general public in a creative and affordable manner, creating an urban village that is authentic to the community.

Ed. Note: Back in May we talked about Griffith Market in a Friday Question of the Day. You can see the full proposals including JBG’s with Harris Teeter here.
