“.@PoPville US Marshals outside New Town bar on Ust looks like it is being evicted”
Newtown Kitchen and Bar opened up in the in the former Tabaq space at 1336 U Street, NW back in Dec. 2013.
Another reader sends via email:
“I just walked down the 1900 block of I 1300 block of U street and it looks like maybe the Newtown restaurant and bar is being evicted (at least that’s where it looks like the action is). There are Marshalls with vests and guns, movers, and various others going in and out while the furniture is being brought out to the sidewalk.”

Last week Gallagher & Graham opened but I finally peeked inside. It’s a bit smaller than I thought but really turned out nicely. I was told “the architect was Bernard Matze who recently returned to Argentina and the contractors/carpenters were Patriot Construction of VA.”

1939 12th St, NW just south of U Street
From MPD:
“On Saturday, December 20, 2014, at approximately 4:30p.m., Third District Mountain Bike officers were flagged down by a witness who observed a female suspect take numerous mail packages from several homes in the 1900 block of 13th Street, NW.
The Third District Mountain Officers canvassed the area and was able to locate and stop the female suspect in the 1300 block of T Street, NW. After further investigation the female suspect was arrested and charged with numerous counts of Theft and receiving stolen property.
Thanks to the quick action of one of your neighbors we were able to make the arrest!!”

Hard to believe this is the former Latino Auto Sales lot. Looking forward to learning who takes over the restaurant/retail space in this 30-unit residential building. Like the way the building is turning out?

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve got to ask if any in the community have anything good to offer about the somewhat-recently-relocated restaurant, Creme. I had very modestly moderate hopes when they opened that they might be a go-to neighborhood restaurant. But middling Yelp reviews, a nearly constantly empty restaurant (I walk/bike by multiple times a day and even at peak times it is often nearly completely empty), and a less-than-inviting decor have kept me away. Any fans out there? Or will UMD researchers discover it’s lackluster Yelp reviews are indeed indicative of an imminent demise?”
Ed. Note: It always seems crowded when I walk by during weekend brunch hours. You can see Creme’s menus here.
