5:45pm Shooting in Kingman Park, 2 Guns Recovered; Double Shooting in Columbia Heights; Shots Fired on U Street, Gun Recovered, Arrest Made

“On Friday, October 5th, 2018, at approximately 5:45 PM, Fifth District Officers received a call for the sound of gunshots near 15th and D Streets, NE. Officers responded to the location and located an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical assistance was requested, and the victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Two (2) individuals have been detained in reference to this shooting, and two (2) firearms have been recovered.

“The Third District Detective’s Office is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1300 block of Columbia Road, NW. Third District patrol units responded to the area to investigate the sound of gunshots. Officers found two victims, both suffering from gunshot wounds. (more…)

This is the space previously home to Alphonse, which closed back in September 2016 and oh boy… The liquor license placard for the replacement restaurant to be called Brooklyn says:

“New C Restaurant serving New York and American Cuisine. Seating Capacity of 101, Total Occupancy Load of 171. The Licensee is requesting an Entertainment Endorsement and Cover Charge.”

Tiki TNT Taking over Archipelago For Three Nights and “slinging 5 Tiki cocktails per night”

This November, Todd Thrasher, the lauded wine and spirits devotee and multi-year James Beard Award nominee, will open his highly anticipated Potomac Distilling Company and the Polynesian-style neighborhood tavern, Tiki TNT. Thrasher can’t wait for the opening day, so he’s taking over Archipelago [September 17, September 24, and October 1, 2018] and slinging 5 Tiki cocktails per night – letting the public decide the fate of each cocktail.

For the three consecutive Mondays, from 6PM until midnight, Todd Thrasher will be mixing up the finest, island-inspired Tiki cocktails to soon be featured at DC’s first urban rum haven on the riverfront. DC Parks and Rec appears to have moved out of their space in the 1300 block of S Street. I’m concerned about what happens next with this space. I recall Studio Theatre and other local businesses have pushed for a parking structure in the past. Of course, it’s a great space to develop, but at what cost to the existing traffic and neighbors? A large building would completely block sun from all of the yards along T St and 13th.

Any intel on what the city plans to do? And what kind of input can neighbors have?”
